7" drop from 10 to 20 yards????
 

I'm puzzled!!!

I just switched from Easton XX75 arrows to Whitetail Hunter (Carbon Express hunter) arrows. I'm shooting 70# @ 29". At 10 yards when I was just sighting in the new arrows, I had to move my sight up a lot to compensate for the faster flight of the Carbon Express. But when I moved back to 20 yards, I find that the arrow drops 6 - 8"!!! [:@]

Now I know this may be normal, but I used to be able to use the same pin from 10 - 25 yards and be only about an inch different with the Eastons.

Any ideas of what is up? I've tried tuning, but nothing really makes much of a difference and the arrows shoot clean holes through paper.

Here are some more specs for those interested:
29.5 Inch Arrows (Carbon Express Hunters labeled as Whitetail Hunter for Gander Mtn.)
The arrows appear to have slightly offset fletching.
125 gr. Field Points (To practice before switching to my Muzzy 3 blade 125 gr broadheads)

What gives? Do I just give in and re-adjust my sight?

If you had said that your POI at 20 yards was simply 7" lower now Vs. the other arrows I would have immediately thought of a lower launch angle created by smaller diameter carbon shafts off the same rest tune..........but you moved your sights to hit dead on at 10 yards and at 20 you're that low? That doesn't make any sense at all unless your lobbing grenades. My bow will shoot almost the same POI at 10yds and 20yds with my 20 yard pin sighted for 20 yards.....maybe a 1/2" high at 10 yards or so.
Did you think to readjust your rest to compensate for a smaller diameter shaft?

You said you moved your sight up? If you moved your pins up that would make your arrows hit lower. What I would do is sight in at 20yds for your first pin if you are using a multi-pin setup and then step back to 10yds and see how high it hits then. I wouldn't think you would shoot much over 1" high at 10yds and 6-8" low (depending on speed) at 30yds. Let us know what you get.

Basically the arrow leaves below the sight and rises to the POI. Because of sighting in at 10 with the faster arrow you had to raise the sight a bunch because of how fast and thus flat the trajectory is in order to be dead on at 10 yards. You basically have this arrow leaving the bow almost parallel to the ground, so of course it'll fall off harder at 20. You need to sight in at around 22 yards and you'll have your 1 pin from 10 to 25 yards and it'll be a tighter trajectory than before.

Heck..I use my top pin for everything from 10 yards to 30...fast and flat.

Thanks. I'll try to get some shooting time today to verify everything.

It just seemed so weird. I could see the arrow drop at 20 yards. It just seemed that there was something wrong... maybe if I sight in at 20, i'll be set.

And yes, to all those who asked, I've adjusted my rest to compensate for the different diameter arrow.
