Hoyt Cam.5
 

Hi, i recently purchased a hoyt ultra mag and want to switch to carbon arrows, the shop where i bought the bow says to use the hard cam chart and i called hoyt 2 times and was told 1 time to use the medium cam chart and once to use the hard cam chart, any help from anyone shooting the cam .5 would be really helpful, thanks for any replys.

JRSY,I shoot a Cybertec and have always gone with the hard cam chart.I shoot a 28" draw at around 68-70lbs and have found the 55-75 or the 300 series arrows work well.BTW,I just bought some of the PSE Stealth hunters and found them to be a very nice arrow at a really reasonable price.Was using Gold Tips.Ron

If your bow has an advertised speed any where near 300 fps I would say it's a hard cam. I wish they would use a different system than what they do. The geometry of the bow will also have an effect on it, like the axle to axle and brace height of the bow. If you have two bows that have a 29 inch draw length, they may not really have the same the powerstroke.

Definately lean toward the stiffer spine.

Thanks for the advice guys, my bow is 36 axle to axle i shoot a 28 1/2 draw set at 70lbs and the ibo rating is 305.

i have a hoyt cam.5 ultratec and i tryed carbons with it and i couldent get the acuracy or the penetration out of them that i got with aluminums

I agree with the others. I shoot an Xtec and can tell you they are much like any other single cam bow. They favor a stiffer spine. Depeding on what arrows you go with also makes a difference. I shoot Gold Tips and with my length of arrow and draw weight, I fell at the bottom end of a 5575 meaning I had room to play with if I cranked up the poundage. These arrows are actually good up to 72lbs based on the chart.

They tuned well and fly like darts with BH's.

If you're unsure, just buy a couple of the size recommended and couple of a slightly stiffer spine to find which works best.
