Other than the obvious of hay bales, any ideas for homemade targets.

I have made one, but have not shot into it yet. I used a 2'by 8' by 2" wide piece of foam insulation. I cut the 8' length into three and glue them all together. I'm letting the glue set for another day or so, but will let you know how it works with both target points and fixed broadheads. It cost me about $12 to make with the insulation and glue.

This works extrememly well and can be very cheap if you're good at scrounging. Get a target sized cardboard box, at least 12 inches thick. Stuff it as full as you can of plastic, such as grocery sacks, garbage sacks, etc. A good product to use is the plastic wrap they put on stuff loaded on pallets to keep it from falling, like at a grocery store. Find out what day they get there trucks in, and get as much as you need. Another good source is the dumpster behind middle and low end furniture stores. Once you've got your box stuffed to the max, close it with duct tape. Shoot away. When the box gets shot up, re-use your plastic in a new one.... If you wanna make it weather tite, wrap the box in shrink wrap plastic. This target works really well and will stop my carbons moving @ 290 fps... I use with field tips only, never tried a broadhead... but I imagine if you use expandables and wrap dental floss to keep them closed, it would work equally well...

I use the same exact set-up as Rangeball and have done so for about 6 years and it works great. Places like Wal-Mart and Kroger usually keep their plastic wrap from their pallets and if you know someone who works there they could probably hook you up. The more you stuff the box the better.

An alternative to the cardboard box is to use replacement covers for bag targets. These usually have grommets so you can hang the target if you wish... Burlap bags are reported to work as well...

I send you a pic of a target I made filled with plastic wrap and rage's but framed with 2X4's and has a metal roof it has held up for a yr with several 290fps plus bows shooting it daily

I get a good sized box that is as deep as my arrows are long and stuff it with any paper,plastic and rags.I also like to put magazines directly behind the front face of the target.I use this in my cellar all winter long.If one side gets shot out I just flip it around.Ron

Get a wool bag from one of your sheep farmer neighbors and double it, stuff fairly full with wool. Only takes 2 fingers to pull your arrows out. make a frame to hang it from.<img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have a friend that works at a screen door factory. I have this person get me the scrap from plastic fibre type screens and stuff it into a plastic material feed bag. You can get the bags from any near by feed mill pretty cheap. You can buy screening from menards or locate a window and screen factory for there scraps. This set up will stop any arrow dead in its tracks<img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle>. Also a two finger pull out. The screening will last forever!!!!

Drew, That screen door factory wouldn't be Amsco would it?? That is a sister division of the company I work for, and they are right down the road from you. Does your buddy work on the floor or in the office?
