How many twists on strings and buss cables?
 

How many twists should you have on your string and how many on your buss cables? Does this very for each bow or is there a set standard to go by?

It depends on the lengths needed, but I like a lot of twists in my strings, especially when using BCY 452 -- makes a nice round, stable string. I had a string made for my Max2000 that is 59 1/8" long and it has 45 twists.

A general rule of thumb is 1 twist per every 2 inches of length, but you can go to 1 twist per inch.

Robvos is basically right on, there seems to be general rule of 1 twist for 2 inches, but it seems that with the newer material more twists will hold the servings in place better. I've found this to be true and put more twists in before serving.

I just found this on a search. I just bought a used Switchback and I need to replace the cam to change the draw length. The bow is about 8mos old. The ata is identical on both sides at 33 3/16's(specs say 33" approx.)and the brace height is just about 6 7/8's(specs say 7" approx.).
Is that close enough? When I switch the cams should I just put the string back onwithout adding twists.

In the response above about number of twists in a string... 1 twist per 2 inches of length... does that mean for a new 35 1/2" string I should start with 18 full twists(not 1/2 twists) and go from there till brace height and ata is back to specs? Do the string and cable in combo change the ata? If so whats the rule of thumb for cable twists and which do you do first? I'm getting confused... this will be my first attempt... but I have to start some place. Thanks

a good rule of thumb is 1 twist for every 1.5"- at least its a good place to start. so if your string is 60", like mentioned above - then 45 twists. this is if you apply all twists before serving. if the piece is already served, then you only consider the unserved length.
a switchback cable should have a finished length of 35 5/16" (yeah, i know what the sticker says ).
