VITAL BOW GEAR or QUAD drop away rest?? Which is better and why??
Do both of these rest work the same way?? I like the idea of the arrow not falling off the shelf.

If you are referring to the QAD Ultra rest then I would go with that. It is the only rest on the market that will only fall when shot and will not fall when simply letting down your bow. It totally contains your arrow and it is very easy to tune!

I think the ripcoard rest is the same as the QAD but quieter . I have a QAD and its allright , still get contact , but use feathers . I have no experiance with the vital .

RE: VITAL BOW GEAR or QUAD drop away rest?? Which is better and why??
I recently got the QAD due to all of the rave reviews I've read. I got pretty heavy contact on my vanes with the rest. I tried moving the rest and nock point around, but could not get around the contact problem. Either I got contact from the long extended arms on the 2 hen fletches when shooting with the cock vane up, or very heavy contact on the cock vane when I tried it cock vane down. I do like the way the rest works, and probably will make a launcher for it with shorter arms. It will not have the 100% containment of the original, but still should work well for a hunting or 3D rest. I've never tried the VBG rest.

How are you guys setting the QAD up?
I could shoot anything through that rest with any fletch configuration or type with no contact issues. |

Same here as Jeff. At first I had a tiny bit of trouble, but it really was easy for me to get it set right. My QAD is set so it comes at final position within the last 1-1.5" of full draw. I also did not have any problems with it falling too fast, my nock is set exactly the same as with a conventional rest. For me 1/8" above 90 degrees works great.
I don't know how it could be any quieter, thought maybe I had lost my hearing, so my inlaw stood to the side while I shot and he could not hear the rest at all. |
RE: VITAL BOW GEAR or QUAD drop away rest?? Which is better and why??
I set it up originally with the nock about 1/8" above square. I did move the rest downward until it looked to be way nock high. Still had contact. I followed the directions on the package. It was coming up to the drop away position maybe 1 1/4" before full draw. I e-mailed the company to see if there was any tension adjustment on the rest, but got no reply so far. In looking at the rest, I don't see any way to take it apart anyway. Looks like it was glued together.[&:] I have some 1/8" aluminum that I could make a launcher out of. I would make it much like the original, but without the long arms that extend upward. I know it wouldn't be a full containment setup then, but it still would be pretty tough for the arrow to fall off and it would give me the clearance I got the rest for in the first place. I don't really understand it, since most of you that have used it have had no problems like I had.:(
