How long to break in a new bow?

Hey guys...I just bought a new Hoyt. I spent about 2 hours with the proshop guy tuning it and sighting in the 20 yd pin the first night. I went out tonight and I was hitting about 2-3 inches off. I am thinking this would be breaking it in? Am I correct? If so how long should I expect to be breaking it in?

it takes 100-250 shots to break in the string, sometimes more. i watied until i hit shot 200 before i started seriously tweaking my sight. you may have to move the sights a little bit after its broke in.

Getting the string to "set", is a gradual process. Whether it takes place over 10 shots (with a good pre-stretched string), or 200 shots, is irrelevant. In either case, you won't see a 3" move from the last shot on one day, to the first one on the next. I'd be looking for something that moved. Check for loose screws or a peep that isn't tied in tight. When getting a new set-up tuned, it's always good to take some precise measurements on the ATA, the brace height, tiller, axel to string-nock distance, exact rest height and center positions and limb bolt position. A quick check of these measurements can varify if anything has changed. Big moves in groups are either the results of poor form or something wrong.

I picked up a new Hoyt at the beginning of the summer. I put about 500 arrows through it and concentrated on grouping more than shot placement on the target. I went back to my pro shop to have them give it a quick once over after the breaking in period and then started tweeking my sites. A coule of hundered arrows should be enough to stretch your string out.

This actually brings up a good question. Not string related, but actual bow related. Do you think there is a settling of the limbs and so forth on a bow over time? HMMMMM.....
