Yeah its enough. If I was shooting 55 lbs and out to 40 yards (I only shoot to 30 yards with 70 lbs bow) I would shoot a cut on impact broadhead - something like Steelforce or a Bear Razorhead.

Good Luck!

Yea, its plenty. I agree with cloud though, shoot a cut up front head. Of course, id say that to someone whose shootin 70 pounds also just because i really like that style.

How long you been bowhunting? If you've been around a while then you know that 95% of deer are shot at 1-22 yards. Some guys think they need 70-75lbs to do the job on deer. Well, maybe critters like Rhino's or such. In the past I've shot upwards of 67lbs, but as I get older and wiser the bow keeps coming down to "adequate levels" for the game I hunt. And yes, 55lbs is enough for deer.

I might be being presumptuous, but if you need to ask the question as you did, then you should probably not even be considering shots at 40 yards. It's just something you learn with time and experience.

that is plenty as long as you have good sharp broadheads you will not have a problem. But it would probely be better to take a shorter shot if you are not sure. don't risk injuring the deer if you can't wait for him to come in closer.
