Need help understanding something
 

OK here's the deal. I shot an older bow 30" draw, 29.5" arrow weighing 525 gr. at 235 fps.
New bow 29.5" draw, shooting exact same arrow doesn't appear any faster. From 20-30 yds I have a 8-10" drop which was about how my old bow was. The only thing I can think right now, is that the new bow really isn't pulling 70# cause it is a bit easier. I'm figuring I'll take it back the the shop to double check, but just wanted to see if you guys had any thoughts before I went back in. Am I expecting too much????

Number one, what's your new bow rated at compared to the older one? They may be fairly close. Another thing is that these bows are rated by IBO, that means a light arrow. You are shooting closer to AMO. When you look at bow specs they are all over the place, from 290's to mid 300's. When alot of these bows are set up for AMO specs they tend to be much closer. Most speed bows from what I have been told don't shoot much over 250 something in an AMO configuration. I'm sure the bowtech dually's will do better than this however, but I bet not much.

Might be something up with your bow however, worth having it looked at I guess.

What bow did you have, and what bow do are you shooting now?

Most of the older bows used cams that were more egg-shaped resulting in a harsher draw and a faster arrow.Usually the more round the cam the slower the bow shoots and the easier it will draw.This is no real technical explanation just an observation.

The old bow was a nova single cam. The new one is a martin Razor X also single cam. New one is rated 295, don't know what the old one was rated.

I have a buddy shooting a G2 and carbons getting 285 @ 70#, and 265 @60# with a couple inch shorter draw. I figured I'd at least get 250 @70# even with alums.

Probabley not, but I'll bet it's quiet.

If you want more speed drop your arrow weight down about 100 grains or so. that should give you about 30 more feet per second.

Check your buddy's arrow weight.

problem is you are shooting too heavy of an arrow however I would put the bow on a scale to make sure it is pulling what it is supposed to be pulling.

It is very quiet, but I'd also like to be able to shoot out to near 25-30 yds with one pin(at least with a pendulum from a tree). I've gone thru some combinations where I can drop total arrow weight by 20, 45, 60, and 105 grains from the current 525. Which of these do you think would be the best compromise of speed and weight?

I would drop your arrow weight by 105 you will get moer speed and will gain Ke also.
If you cannot get the speed out of a heavy arrow you will not get ke either.
