Broadheads 100 or 125 gr?
I've always used 125gr Thunderhead broadheads. Last year I bought a new bow (Hoyt with Cam and 1/2) and switched over to carbons (Goldtip XT Hunter 7595). I did just fine last year killing a mulie and hit a nice bull with the new setup. Last year was more of... set it up, sight it in and go hunt!!! This year I'm trying to get a little more technical. I know some serious techies exist on the forum. I'm curious if "generally" speaking will a 100 gr broadhead fly better or group better than a 125 gr broadhead with the following setup:
28" GoldTip XT Hunter 7595 - 70 lb draw on the Hoyt Cam and 1/2's |
RE: Broadheads 100 or 125 gr?
i always use 100 grain heads they will be fine i dought they will group any better unless your FOC is too heavy with the 125s, shoot what you are comfortable with and good luck

There is no way anyone can sit here and tell you which is going to be best for your setup. The only way to figure that out is to do your own shooting and experimenting.
Same principle as building up a handload for your rifle. |

Arthur is right you will have to try out both & see what you think for yourself!

RE: Broadheads 100 or 125 gr?
I agree with arthurp, but from my personal experience with carbons they seem to like the 100's or 90's better, but check your foc and spine capability also.

RE: Broadheads 100 or 125 gr?
Just to give soem more perspective. I can shoot one arrow out of one of my bows & get perfect tears with 125 grain heads while 100 grain gives me a tear. Then when I shoot that same arrow out of another bow I get the same results but in reverse!
It's always a cxatch 22 in archery isn't it? ;) |
RE: Broadheads 100 or 125 gr?
I was just talking to the proshop the other day about this very subject. I told that you should never use 125 grain heads on carbon arrows. I told that they are to heavy for themand it will fly nose down.
