Calling all arrow guhru's !!!
 

Well as I keep at it with archery.......I'm always learning something!

Shooting last night and decided to try some more broadhead shooting ......deer season starts in about 6 weeks and my mulie hunt follows up shortly thereafter !!

My set up again : Outback 30" 76# , WB , loop , Axis 340's 28" w/Bohning 4"vanes and 125 grain field points ! And tru-peep ,Cobra Sidewider 3 pin,Simms Ehn.200 stab. !

Haven't gotten the results I would want from 130 grain Muzzys.....They seem to fly low and left ......but won't group.... good spinning ones are closest to my field points.....the others are not !!

Last night I decided to try out my 100 grain Wasp Boss Bullets.....and WOW is all I can say !!!!! I think they shot more consistantly than my field points ......it almost seemed like I couldn't miss ! [8D]

Next I shot my Spitfire 125 grain Pro series and they hit well ......although one issue popped up !

Field points were good !

My 50 yrd groups were from a best of 1 3/4" to a worst of 3.5 " with combined shots of each head(in the 10 ring).......which made me very happy......although I will have to do some re-fletching !! [8D]:D

The Boss bullets stacked some impressive double lung hits at 70 yrds on my 3-d as well !!

MY QUESTION :

One thing I found very interesting was on a few shots ! On poorly released shots ...the Wasp heads seems to be the most forgiving , field points were slightly worse, but my Spitfires were the worst ...they shot great(cutting fletchings) as long as I made a good release........if not they seemed to hit 2-3 inches from my group !

I suspect this is a spine or FOC issue !! What do ya'll think ??

Just get some ACCs and be done worrying about arrows...

My brother-in-law, who is a notorious retrieve your bow from the closet just before opening day, fling a few arrows, hit the woods kind of bowhunter used these last year based on my recommendation. He went the previous several years missing chip shots and wounding deer to 2 for 2 last fall :)

His problem prior wasn't so much he was a bad shot, but he was using big cut mechanicals on an improper set up as he couldn't get regular broadheads to fly. Gee, wonder why...

Anyway, he reports the same experience as you. Fly just like field tips, under all conditions.

As for the forgiveness factor, I'm leaning towards you are more confident with them and such not making as big a shooting error as perhaps you are with the others?

Range.....you may be right !!

Last year I tried them(WaspBB)....but lost confidence with my LX and PSE arrows .......they would plane left on me after 40 yrds and out at 70 they would hit several inches low and left of my field points ! They were traveling at 300 fps though......and now more like 285 fps !

Anyway.....didn't expect the results I got !

Just curious....because I can tell when I punch my release a little .....and it sure seemed like it was affecting the Spitfires the worst !

I think you are probably bordeline spine-as is for your set-up. Singles, even with good nock travel like the HP cams like a slightly stiff arrow. You have a long draw and are shooting pretty darn heavy poundage. Were it me I'd be shooting 300 class shafts

The answer to the Muzzy 130's is easy..BIG broadhead...combined with a probable spine issue

Same with the Spitfires...the 125s are long and I never could get them to group with my field points...they would group tight, but they change the FOC.

The Wasps are pretty easy to figure out too..that's a very small head and stiffened up the arrow a bit. Try shooting 100 grain field points out of your bow now, and see if you notice a difference in groups from the 125s...

By experimenting like that you can really find out the exact best spine to work with your setup..and it's much more telling than paper. This is one reason I like to tune my arrows or use various spined and adjust to what the bow wants, and not adjust the bow to what the arrows want (IMO, a band-aid)... with enough experimentation you will find that "perfect" spine that shoots fixed blade heads even at high speeds without having to change/fiddle with everything on the bow (C-shot, nocking point, poundage etc).

try the Wasb Boss bullets with the Bhonning Blazer vanes
you will get more down range speeds
I find they stabelize these heads very well!

I am using the 75 gn bullete with the blazer vanes with the Speed Pro Max arrows and getting Incredible arrow flight!

Have had trouble signing in the last couple days or I wanted to say what JeffB says. I'd shoot 300's also, especially at that length and weight. I'm more inclined to shoot 340's at a max of around 70#.
