Guaranteed Kill a Big Buck
At $37 for 1.5 ounces, I think they're banking on most suck, er hunters not knowing pheremones are responsible for the mating attraction and can't last more than 30-45 seconds outside the doe... |

RE: Seen this yet?
Rangeball is correct,
I still dont see how any of these companies do not get sued for false advertising. They must have found some sort of loop hole. Before I get slammed for what I am about to say ..... remember... I am a long time member of this board that really does not post alot lately (in the past few years anyway) These are just some facts, opinions and some things to make you go Hmmmmmm????? This is all related to scents. Bottom line... Communication. Between deer that is, God created animals to communicate with one another through the use of body scents (Urine) and secretions from various glands. The whitetail deer in particular uses scents from various parts of their body to communicate their status within the herd as well as outside of the herd. From the odor of deer urine, deer can tell the dominance of a deer, the age, social status, sex, physical condition and if they are willing and ready to breed or not. The use of scents, if used properly can and has been very effective in harvesting trophy deer. The three main types of scent attractants are 1) Food 2) Curiosity and 3) Sexual. From the research and reports that I have read, and the experience I have had with so-called doe-in-heat urine, I believe it does not and can not exist. Based on these facts: A doe will go into heat at least once a year, usually in late fall, early winter, when the amount of sunlight begins to decrease. If the doe is not bred, she will usually go into heat again within another 26-29 days. A doe is generally in heat anywhere from 18 to 36 hours. During that time frame, in the collection process, a doe can on average produce about an ounce of urine per hour. Given these parameters, a doe can only produce a maximum of 36 ounces of true doe-in-heat urine per deer, per year. Based on these parameters, how many deer in captivity would it take to fill all of the millions of bottles with doe-in-heat urine on the market? First of all you need to understand in the wild what makes doe in heat urine very effective in attracting a buck to a hot doe. The answer is the pheromones in the estrogen of a hot doe. The only problem with pheromones is that it is a living organism and has a life of 30 seconds to 6 minutes. The pheromones in estrogen can be detected anywhere from 6 to 10 miles away and contains approximately 93 chemical compounds. The estrogen in the urine will dissipate within 24 to 48 hours rendering it useless and ineffective after that time. As I mentioned in the above paragraph, If you could bottle true doe-in-heat urine it would have a shelf life of approximately 48 hours max. Based on the amount a labor involved, and the profit needed to sustain the provider of the deer farm, a 1 oz bottle would cost around $400. It would be impossible for any deer farmer to know exactly when a doe is going into heat and when she has come out. It becomes a guessing game and extremely labor intensive to manage the collection process of true doe-in-heat urine. You could artificially induce does to go into heat, but this is extremely dangerous for the deer as well as the rancher to risk taking a chance on killing his deer. This is his livelihood and a $10 bottle worth of doe urine is not worth it. Also, the cost of feeding and maintaining a couple thousand head of deer would be astronomical and economically infeasible. Also as I mentioned in the previous paragraphs, There is only so much true doe-in-heat urine one doe can produce in a year (Approximately 36 ounces a year) There are not enough deer in captivity to fill all of the millions of bottles on the market with true do-in-heat urine. Again, after 48 hours, the estrogen dissipates and the pheromones are dead rendering the scent useless. Bottling doe-in-heat urine simply can not be done! Have you ever stopped and though about fresh doe-in-heat urine? How can doe-in-heat urine or any urine for that matter be fresh if the does do not go into heat until October, November or December and the product is on the store shelf by July and August of that same year? You are actually buying urine that was collected the prior year or earlier that season, so how can you have fresh urine based on these facts? I consider fresh urine to be straight from the deer. There is no such thing as fresh urine useless you are able to collect it fresh yourself or from either a harvested deer or from a local deer farmer in your community. As I stated earlier, deer communicate through scents and deer can tell individual deer apart based on the particular scents of each animal. If you have urine that is collected from several animals (bulk), this only confuses the deer and works against you. Deer know that this is not natural when they smell scents from a multitude of deer in a concentrated area. You are more likely to scare off more deer than you will attract. There are very few scent companies on the market that sell only true single source, 100% pure urine. Almost every scent company on the market now sells bulk urine or urine that has synthetic additives or preservatives. Deer urine is extremely effective in attracting deer. Deer urine when it is fresh is generally yellow in color. The problem with using scents is the bacteria found in the urine. After 48 hours the bacteria begins to breaks down the urine and the effectiveness of the scent begins to diminish. The breakdown is natural and is expedited by direct sunlight, heat and oxygen. |
