Serving length??

When you put on a new serving...How far past from nocking point do you go? Mine goes about 4 inches each way. Is that to much, or does it even matter. thanx.......fishon :)

RE: Serving length??

fishon01, if your serving is wrapped tight enough, and tied properly, I know of no advantage to having it any longer than nessessary. The disadvantage of a long serving, and it is slight, loss of speed. If you use a kisser button, it is easier to tie it into the serving, rather than directly to the string. I serve my bows with about 3.5" of serving.
Hope this helps!

I also keep my center serving abouts 3 1/2". No need in my opinion to have more than you really need.

RE: Serving length??

If it is a 3D shooter and they request it (the need for speed thing) then I usually make it avout 4", 1 1/2 " above and 2 1/2" below the nock point. For hunting bows I usually make it about 6", 2" above and 4" below. I got into the habit of a little extra on top as more upward pressure is on the serving (nock) so it won't slip but have never had one slip.
