Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
First of all I have a QAD Ultra rest. Today when I was shooting I had three shots that were loud and I could see the arrow fishtail to the target and it hit about 6 inches off. What could cause this? I just got my rest moved up but I sighted it in before w/o any problems. Also I just added limb savers, a stabilzer, and a wrist sling right b4 I shot today. I hope that the loud noise is my arrow hitting something and not my bow experiencing the stress of a dry fire.

RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
My guess is that the arrow fletch is hitting the rest:eek:

RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
Thats what I thought too, but why not every time? Why the noise?

RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
Make sure your nocks aren't coming away from the string at full draw........check to see if any are worn or loose and can be pulled away from the string too easily.
If you are at full draw and the nock is off the string a bit because of pinch or slipping?....bad.[:-] Make sure they snap lightly but securely, and replace any that are worn cracked or different in any way. |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
I agree with Matt, start by checking your nocks for wear and proper alignment.

RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
Matt when you say bad do you mean bad for my bow?
|
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
"Bad" meaning the arrow could come unsnapped off the string but not fall completely off. Not to mention wrecking any hope for accuracy, it could cause a dry fire and make the arrow whip around, making a mess of your personal tender parts. One of those 'damage to the bow and possible personal injury' things.
Also, are you sure you're not torquing the string or pinching the nock hard enough to lift it slightly off the rest? |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
Maybe a loose or not fully attached fletching / vane?
|
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
What about numbering your arrows to determine if it's the same arrow or not?
|
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
Of the QADs that I've installed, when installed on certain bows with short cable slide travel and faster speeds, will NOT drop fast enough. If you're using vanes rather than feathers, it's more pronounced. The spring tension can be increased and will most often correct the problem, but it is a cumbersome job.
This may or may not be your noise, but it's a start. |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
If I understood Len corectly the lift cord is attached to the cable guard slide?
if this is so i would not use the slide to lift the rest, instead serve the cord into the down power harness and adjust where it comes all the way up only one inch from full draw this should eleminate any contact. also check your nocking point, if it is too low it will cause the back of the arrow to bottom out on the rest as well. |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
BPS:
No, I did not intend to imply that the cord was attached to the cable slide. My intent was to relate to very 'quick acting' bows and I guess my choice of words left something to be desired. I've got one in the shop right now that is getting horrible fletching contact. They definitely should consider redesigning the rest to incorporate more spring tension. Of course, if you call them, they "don't have a problem" and "you've installed it incorrectly". WRONG! |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
I dont think I have ever seen one of these rests
I will have to look in my Papes catalogue to check this one out and put an x thru the picture:D cant be any worse than a bodoodle zapper that is another one that is on my black list.[:'(] |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
Hmm..funny...AFAIC this is the best dropaway I've used yet, and my shop has sold a bazillion of them with no major tuning issues. It has it's quirks I'm sure like everything else, but they have put them on 5 major bow brands with great and less than great nock travel, parallel and not so parallel limbs..
But I can give a few more names to put an X through in your Papes catalog BPS :D |
RE: Question about ocassional loud/crazy arrow flight.
I love this rest and nothing is wrong with it. I think it was a nock issue. I had got some dirt in my nocks earlier and i think they may have been slipping off on the draw. This rest is awesome and my shop is selling a ton of them as well. Bigpapascout, I wouldn't cross it out, I would circle it and buy one.
