RE: I need more speed (help)
The 60 grain tip will only net you a few fps at best.
Any chance you can crank the bow down a bit to up the poundage? Get everything off the string except the bare essentials. I assume you use a peep (3D). If you use a rubber tube, ditch it. Get a lighter no tube needed peep. The Liberty at 304ish IBO is respectable, but not a speed bow by todays standards. Perhaps get some 70# limbs and back it off until it does what you want? If all that fails, find comfort in the fact that the trajectory difference in 17fps is not very big :) |

RE: I need more speed (help)
Well, for 3D, you don't need the hush kit. Take it all off and see what that does for you.
You could also switch to one of the new shorter headed releases that will allow you to draw more length but retain your current anchor point, assuming you don't already. Course then you'd need a new module, but they're cheap... Basically, increase draw weight, increase draw length, decrease arrow weight, get everything not absolutely necessary off the string. Not much more than that can be done... |
RE: I need more speed (help)
Looks like you're pretty well at the limit as for arrow weigh/lb. Do you have a brass nockset? Mine slowed me down 4fps vs a tied on nockset. Considering you're not trying to yank your sjoulders out of socket you might consider a custom string of BCY8125 or Brownell TS-1 with two less strands than recommended. This may gain you as much as 10fps. Often overlooked, because they cost a few dollars.

RE: I need more speed (help)
Believe it or not, i had an old timer convence me to try the "speed balls" from cabela's, and they work. I gained 12 fps, and it did not add any noise. I also had an archery shop pro say that by putting a simple brass nock in the same place it would have produced the same results.

RE: I need more speed (help)
Go out and buy you a dozen of speed pro max shafts, tune a nocks,
2.50"x.50" Flex Fletch Vanes and 65 Grain FP I guarantee you at least 15 FPS probably more. |
RE: I need more speed (help)
flash.....the speed balls do work, however the trick is getting them in the correct place on the string. You really need to shoot arrows through a chrono, move the balls, shoot more arrows and repeat. Eventually you will find a "sweet spot" that gives you the most speed increase.
As for using a brass nockset in place of the speed balls......DON'T! The brass nocks are not designed for the stress axially along the string that you find at the ends of the limbs near the cams. They are designed for the perpendicuar stress you get at the center of the string. Essentially what can and will happen is one or more of these puppies will come off on the shot, possibly causing some severe damage to yourself or bystanders. If you do use brass nocks, relax your string, and slide some heat strink tubing over the string and nocks, then shrink it. This will keep the nocks in place if one happens to "liberate" itself from your string. |
RE: I need more speed (help)
Alas, the Liberty is not designed for speed. Especially at lighter poundages and shorter draw lengths. You've been given some pretty good advice here. Other than that there is not much you can do.
BTW, your Liberty already has a TS1 string from one of a few custom string manufacturers so I'm not sure if spending the money is worth it , in that case. |

RE: I need more speed (help)
you might consider a custom string of BCY8125 or Brownell TS-1 with two less strands than recommended. By using the lighter string and shorter cable, I wouldn't be surprised if you could gain 20 fps. Of course, this may have a negative effect on arrow spine and flight characteristics. I'm not familiar with your arrow's spine range, but you may end up with a flatter arrow that doesn't fly so well. |
RE: I need more speed (help)
My only suggestion would be to ditch the hush kit as well. You might pick up 3-5 fps with your setup. Also make sure that the bow is tuned very well otherwise you will lose some speed there. If I am not mistaken the Libertys are now being shipped with eliminator buttons in shrink wrap both above the single cam and below the idler wheel to optimize the bow's speed potential.
Just to ease your mind, with a 71 lb, 30 inch draw length Liberty and a 430 grain Easton Axis (hush kit installed as well as a medium sized Shurz a Peep, string loop and two tied-in nocksets) I am getting 268 fps out of the bow. |

he can get it over 300 if he so desires:eek: |
RE: I need more speed (help)
ORIGINAL: Bigpapascout Jeff B he can get it over 300 if he so desires:eek: That may be, but there are plenty of carbon shafts that will give him a 300 grain arrow with light points that are appropriately spined. Litespeeds, Cheetahs, Hyperspeeds etc. My point was that if the setup you suggested goes under 300 grains (since the Speed Pros's are known for producing extremely light arrows) he voids his warranty. |

RE: I need more speed (help)
Bowman something does sound wrong there somewhere.I shoot a Justice Vft and I chronoed mine at 70# 27" draw length 351 grain total weight gold tip hunter at 261fps.The liberty is supposed to be about 4 fps faster than the justice and with your 1 inch longer draw you should at least be gettin 280 out of it you would think.I know I am pullin 70 lbs but I am still at the 5 grain per lb limit like yours.have you checked your bow on a scale to make sure it is actually pullin 60lbs?I went to my dealers the other day and pulled back a new extreme vft the BC said 71# max and I told my dealer man that bow pulls smooth for as fast as it is.When we got to checkin it was actually turned down about 1 and a half rounds.Just thought if you have not checked it might look at it cause somethin sure dont sound right.I would think you could get 280 out of that bow easy with a 5 grain per lb arrow.Anyway good luck.:)

RE: I need more speed (help)
make sure your cams are oiled. also put some oil on the string guard and this can give u up to 5 fps. if u are using a prong style rest that is not a drop away put a thin layer of vaseline on them too.

RE: I need more speed (help)
Do the speed balls actually help reduce string noise also?
|
RE: I need more speed (help)
You might want to have your proshop check the position of your cam. I don't know where the Bowtechs are supposed to be set at, but I know that on my Mathews, the two small holes on the cam are supposed to be perpendicular to the string. If the cam is out, this could also effect the arrow speed. Also you could pick up some speed by switching to featers. But be carefull not to put yourself below the specs that would void your warranty.
|
RE: I need more speed (help)
Get some tall limb pivots from Bowtech (approx $2) this will increase draw weight approx 3 lbs and also increase pre-load, you will not even notice the change in draw weight and will probably gain about 4-5 fps without changing anything else. Add a few more changes that were reccomended and 280 should be no problem.

RE: I need more speed (help)
If you are already at 5 gr/lb then adding weight to the bow is going to void the warranty BUT going a little light with a short draw should not hurt a thing.Make sure that you are not adding draw weight to a point that will make shooting uncomfortable.Being able to maintain proper form and execute perfect shots is WAY MORE IMPORTANT than a few feet per second.
An arrow that may actually shoot flatter for you but may be the same weight and speed at the bow is the Easton ACE's.They will give ME a gain of 3 yards at 50 yards and I would only gain about 11 fps with them.Usually 11 fps will only give you about 1 yard at 50 but ACE's just cast flatter. But be prepaired to pay big bucks.[:o] I think you need to just take the hush kit off and make sure the cams are set up properly and quit looking at the chrony and just shoot.I have shot my best 3-d scores at 263 fps and 270 so just learn the yardage and make the shots.;)If it still bothers you that much then a harsher cam will be in order and that is just about the best way to add speed and keep the shootability of a moderate riser designed bow. 1 more thing,I would not go any lighter on the front of the arrows than you are now.Your foc will get too light in my opinion to be shootable in all conditions. |
