LX and the Zebra string ???
How many guys, that shoot an LX, think it's quite enough with just the string supressors ??.I have been shooting 366 grn. and 386 grn. carbons, and the bows alittle loud.
Now,I'll be putting on a "super loop" soon,,so I'll be takeing off the string to slide the loop on.When I take off the brass nock on the lower part of the string, what would the differance be if I replace it with a string leech ??. How much "good" does that little bit of weight do ??.I was just thinking I might be able to "kill 2 birds with one leech",,so to speak. Anyone have any idea ?? (p.s.) My bow is set with a 27.5" draw, 70 lbs. |
RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
I don't own one, but have heard many of them. My general impression is that it is one of the louder Mathews you can buy. The small string weights don't add more then a few fps, if any, so go ahead and replace them with the leeches. I'm not sure you'll get much improvement, but it's worth a shot.

RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
I have shot 2 LX's ......mine w/ no string silencers or limbsavers and one with string leeches on the string/cables and stealth limbsavers ! And to be honest .....there was little difference !
What did make a noticable difference on mine was going from shooting a 350 grain arrow to a 425 + grain arrow ! It quietened down a good bit !! |
RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
Going from speed nocks to string leaches will make it quieter , It did on my mavrick extreme at least , but that thing had 8 nocks on it from the factory , When I took them off it did realy quiet down .

RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
Now I'm thinking,,,,,"if the brass nock adds 1 to 3 fps.",,Takeing it off,and adding leechs, will nock off 3 to 6 fps.????,,,In the past, I have always lost 3 fps.with leechs on my string and cables.I'm not looking to DOUBLE that #,,so I will have to try the string both ways.
I'm sure there's some devoted,shoot every day,try anything,LX owner out there,,,willing to try this little experament ?:D |
RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
Heavier arrows are the answer for me. Not heavy...just heavier. 6 grains per lb is much quieter on my setup than 5.1.

RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
The supressors work excellent at first but wear out fairly quick, IME. All 6 Mathews bows I've had with them have developed a groove and the bow started to get noisy within a few hundred shots (even with cam timing perfect). Since they are a covered warranty item, my shop carries plenty of spares, and they would give me a new set whenever the bows started getting noisy on me. No big deal to swap out, and the bow was deadly quiet again. You may just need a new set.
Of course heavier arrows will cut down on string vibration, and thus noise. I shot all my suppressor bows at 5.5 to 6 grains per LB. However I have noticed the LX & Ovation have more twang than the other supressor laden bows I've shot. The Outback and Icon have been the quietest IME. |
RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
HeyJEFFB,
Sounds like you might know a thing or 2 about the newer Mathews bows.COOL,,you can be my "go to guy".I decided to just throw on some leeches.I have always used something to that effect,so no need to change.I only lose 2 - 3 fps,,no big deal. NEXT QUESTION JEFF : What value does that one brass nock have. The one just above the end of the cam.You gain how much speed with it ??,,or lose with out it ?. I have 300 shots on my new LX,so I'm starting to tweek the string and cables.I am having a alittle bit of a problem getting the poundage out of it.So far, I have had to put MANY twists in both,,string and cables, just to get in the ball park.I think I'm almost done for now.I need 1 more twist in the string to bring the cam in.I should end up with 70 to 71 lbs.of draw weight.PERFECT:D |
RE: LX and the Zebra string ???
JEFF,another question; on cam rotation,,how close is close enough ?.I'm an 1/8" over rotateing right now.OK place to be,or should I try to get even closer ??.
