RE: what arrows fit me best
aprox 500 spine with around 100 grain tip

RE: what arrows fit me best
If you are going to stay at that draw weight 500's should be fine, however I just went through this for my Dad and I went with 400's. They are a little stiff but going to a heavier BH will weaken them up some, there is kind of a fine line at that draw length and weight between the 2.The 400's also give you the option to go to more draw weight and still be in as far as the Easton chart goes. These are only suggestions and there are lots of different ways to look at it but I'd rather be on the stiff side spine wise and be able to weaken it than be on the weak side to start with.

RE: what arrows fit me best
Guess each is an individual but I can shoot 27" Beman ICS 500's up to 63 lbs. My draw is 27 1/2". That's the highest I've shot them. I can also shoot ACC 3-18's up to about 60lbs and I think the spine on them is .560". I used to shoot 400's but found I gained an incredible 20fps going to the 500's. I never thought it would be that much, but the chrono doesn't lie.

RE: what arrows fit me best
BG that's interesting, I did these arrows for my Dad knowing he was going to stay around 55lbs and the Easton chart changes from 400's to 500's just by changing the tip weight, I'll have to see how these work for him and maybe try 500's next time.

RE: what arrows fit me best
The chart only gets you close to the correct spine. What i would do if i was you for hunting, would be buy the 400's cut them about 2 inch longer then they should be. Then shot a bare shaft at 20 yards. It should hit well to the left of the target (Weak). Then i would cut 1/4 inch off of the arrows. Shot them again until the bare shaft is hitting in the group of fletched arrows. I would use 125 points too. The heavier the better, for hunting. Just my idea on what to do. Why do you want to get rid of the slams?

RE: what arrows fit me best
I would suggest some 3-28 ACC's(500 spine) or the Axis arrows in a 500 spine. With no heavier than a 100 gr point.
You should be real close on spine with these and have a little heavier weight than some of the carbons on the market. I shoot 3-28's at 60# and 28 1/2" - 28 3/4" draw for 3-d and I am still in the green on Archers Advanage with spine but just barely. That bow shoots 270 with this setup and is awesome. But I would not hunt with that aroow,I have 3-39's for that. |

RE: what arrows fit me best
gromage and others,
Consider this one if you will. two shooters shoot the same arrow length and bow weight. One man has a 27" draw and shoots a 27" arrow. The other has a 30" draw and shoots with a 3" overdraw, so he shoots a 27" arrow. Can both men shoot the same spined arrow? The answer comes tomorrow>>>>>>>>>>&g t; |

RE: what arrows fit me best
Well, it's near the end of the eveing and nobody is interested, but Josh. Josh, you're right. And this is why, as long as I can remember I have always been able to look at an arrow chart and move one to two arrow sizes lighter (weaker in spine) than what the charts say. I believe the charts are set up for about a 29" draw, or what they deem to be average.
Longer power stroke can get away with the chart. Shorter guy can go lighter and it may be best to find the optimum spined arrow, regardless of the chart. Back in the 70's I was shooting a Jennings Arrowstar, 27 3/8" draw, 51lbs. The arrow I shot was a 27" X7 1614. Of all the arroows I shot out of that bow over 4 years they were the ones that fit the best. Hard to believe but true. I still have some of the many robinhoods I shot with it at distances as long as 60 yards. |
RE: what arrows fit me best
As an FYI, a 2312 is stiffer than a 500 class carbon (about .460 IIRC).
While carbon recovers quicker out of the bow, I would be loathe to ever go weaker in spine under most circumstances, especially for a hunting arrow shooting broadheads. Slightly stiff is just fine, but slightly weak can cause big probs come hunting season. Been there. Done that, as the saying goes I would look into something like a CX200, Redline 410 or an Epic 400 (actually about .420 spine in that particular shaft). They are all very light and will alow you experiment with point and fletching weight for proper FOC and optimum spine. |
RE: what arrows fit me best
Jeff,I agree with you but I think the 2312 is stiff for his setup and not a good hunting arrow at all.
He has a 27" draw length along with a 56# draw weight.A 500 series arrow will still be PLENTY stiff.Heck, even the Easton charts say he can use a 520 Redline if using a 26" arrow and 100 gr tips. I never looked at the charts when I made the suggestion of the 3-28's but I wasn't surprised when I looked at it and the 3-28 was one of the arrows listed.;) But you are right,a 400 series would be fine and shouldn't be hard to tune and will allow room to go up in poundage if necessary.400's could also add a little more weight in some shafts. |

got to change .........

RE: what arrows fit me best
ORIGINAL: TFOX Jeff,I agree with you but I think the 2312 is stiff for his setup and not a good hunting arrow at all. I shot them for about 7 months back in 1993 or so (the whole "Speed at all costs thing"). I went through about 4 dozen arrows in that timeframe.xx12's seem to bend if all ya do is give 'em a dirty look:DHe has a 27" draw length along with a 56# draw weight.A 500 series arrow will still be PLENTY stiff.Heck, even the Easton charts say he can use a 520 Redline if using a 26" arrow and 100 gr tips. Bobcat..care to give us some specifics...Bow model? cam type? actual arrow length? fletching type, point weight, whether you shoot fingers or release, use a string loop or directly off the string...what you have on the string i.e type of peep, silencers, nock points, etc? |
RE: what arrows fit me best
browning tornado 2001 model single cam ......cyber cam...
draw weight.......56 pounds and might go higher, but i feel real good at 56. draw length.......27 back in bowseason i have a string loop i have cat whiskers silencers arrow length 27 i beleive might be 28...... but i think it is 27....... i shoot a release.... i shoot right helical vanes and i shoot a whisker biscuit regular peep sight.... |
RE: what arrows fit me best
Bobcat, that arrow length is the cruciall number that is needed to determine what spine arrow would be best.
Measure it from the throat of the nock to the end of the shaft,NOT THE POINT,and get back to us.Also specify if the new arrow could be shorter than the current ones. The arrows really should stick out past the rest 1" so if you have more than that now,you can go shorter. |
RE: what arrows fit me best
28 on my arrow....
|
RE: what arrows fit me best
That sure is long for a 27" draw. I am going to change my previous suggestion and go with Jeff on this one.3-39"s would be an awesome arrow for you but they are expensive. If you have to use 28" arrows then go with Jeff's suggestions.

RE: what arrows fit me best
i have shot all my arrows .......so i'm taking a guess......but my last arrows was 27 inches....27 sound wright.....
|
RE: what arrows fit me best
Bobcat,
I would pull out your bow and see if you are going to make any draw length adjustments first, because it sounds and looks like you are still growing :) Once you have that settled, let us know your draw length, and what arrow length you can use. If you don't have an arrow lying around to measure with, have the local shop measure for you (or someone can help you at home). |
