Strings on new bows that badly made?
 

Several members here on this site have mentioned replacing strings and cables on their brand new bows, right after a few shots or even before shooting it the first time. Here is a question: if the strings are that bad on new bows, why don't people raise heck with the bow manufacturers? If I paid $650 for a new bow, I would expect a good string and set of cables. I never had to replace cables and string on any new bow...only when they became worn and was qualified as a well shot bow or well used.

THat is agood question! Alot of guys do replace new strings with more new strings and the problem lies with bow manufacturers!

I am replacing the strings on my new Liberty, but not because they were bad quality, but because my "pro"-shop messed up the serving on mine pretty bad!

If customers would start letting the manufacturers hear it, they will setep things up and that is good for everyone. One company starts stepping up on the "smaller" parts of the bow, and customers like it, so other companies have to compete by stepping up there bows, ect...

Not all bow companies use crappy strings but a lot do.

Your right tho after you drop big bucks on a new bow the last thing you should be doing is spending up to another 100 on a quality string and cable.

But unfortunately while we the end users continue to buy bows that have lower quality strings then the manufacturer is going to keep putting them on.

Which is one reason I like Bowtech since I switched over to them I have not had a string or cable problem in fact my 03 Pat Dually still has the original string and cables looks brand new but they have 20k shots on them. I will be replacing it before next season;).

I would venture a guess its because 90% of those buying new bows wouldn't know a WC from fishing line[&:]

Kinda like when a person buys an new car then immediately adds a bunch of stuff to increase horsepower or handling. The regular car is good enough for the majority of the population.

Lol Rack. I get my strings and cables custom made by a local shop, but...........nevertheless, if my next new bow has a bad string and set of cables or bad servings out of the box...gonna be heck raised, and the manufacturer, not only my dealer is going to get earfuls if I have to pay for replacements on a brand new bow.

My Bowtech mighty mite 2002 has Winners choice string and cable. I bought a Mathews LX last year and out of the 25 or so bows I've owned, It had to be the worst string and cable I've ever owned. I just bought an Outback and so far, the string and cable seems to be well made, and have not stretched, so time will tell. I think up until Bowtech went to Winners choice, all the bow manufactures used about the same quality cables and strings. Mathews bought the "Zebra" strings but they wern't much better than any other till Winners choice came along. I consider them the best by a long way than anything out there. Don

Ausie-guy: 20,000 shots on a set of string and cable(s) - interesting. I wouldn't begin to approach that amount of shots on any set of string and cable(s). I've always been afraid of a phrase we always used about tires - "may pops".;)

I've had strings and cables blow up on me many times that had much less than half those shots. I strongly recommend against anyone trying to get the 'most' out of their strings or cables. It could be very dangerous.:(

I find the quality of today's stock strings and cables to be very acceptable for the most part. Some always want to tout the 'best' for their equipment. I personally have stock parts on my personal bow. I just took off a custom string that began to fail after only a couple of thousand shots. And it was from a very reputable source.[:@]

I always replace stock strings and cables. I guess I'm just spoiled from shooting the strings I make. I bought a new bow last week and I took the stock string off and it was 1/2" longer then specs, and the bow had never been shot. Cables were both 3/8" too long. I was told these were premium strings. I have a different opinion. A friend bought a bow from the same mfg about a week earlier, and he left the stock string on. His peep ended up in a different position after practically every shot. This was on a $700 bow. He now has a new string and cable that I made. Problems solved. I suppose a few mfgs are supplying decent strings, but I haven't run into one.

I personally don't waste too much time in having my strings and cables replaced on a new bow either. I find Hoyt's strings to be aweful. I like to get a bow and begin putting a good tune in it ASAP. I don't want to have to keep fiddling with the strings and cables after every couple shooting sessions taking out creep. Yes, at 650 a bow, I expect more from a company like Hoyt who is one of the leaders in the bow industry and everyone is looking at them all the time.

Right now I have a set of Wolf Den strings on my bow and I am pretty impressed so far. No creep after the first 50 or so shots and the peep is consistant, much like Winners Choice I used to shoot.

Len, I always ran quality tires on my jalopies, "Kojak maypops." ;) Hadn't heard that term since I was in high school. Thanks for the stroll down memory lane.
