TFox, wow, talk about a high elbow! I've been fooling around with a Tru Ball Pro Diamond T-handle release lately and experimenting a little with anchor points and draw lengths. I can actually shoot an honest 29" draw, but I just feel much more comfortable at 28". I really like the T-handle release, but its giving me fits. I shoot consistantly left and really can't group tune with it because I continue to the left the farther out I go no matter how much to the right I move the rest. I'll get it though, no matter how much I want to sell the damn release.:D

If you ever get into my area, stop by and I'll be glad to critique your form. I always give several options on form and explain what each option offers for the application. You've been given some good advice here. How it applies to your shooting needs/success is a personal choice.

One bit of advice that I will give is to make changes one at a time and evaluate the positives and negatives of each change before you try another change.

Good luck.

TFOX:

The lad is obviously using a T-type release with a reversed draw hand. When I use a T-release I do the same. My hand position to my anchor point is (then) similar to using my fingers on my recurves, requiring that I elevate my elbow to place and keep my draw hand against my face and in my anchor point.

With me, there is a fine line between having my elbow too high or too low when using a T or fingers. However, when I do use a T-release and back-hand, my elbow is higher than when I shoot with fingers.

With my wrist release, I have to keep my elbow (almost) directly in line with my shaft. If don't, I feel obvious tension in my right shoulder and I don't seem to be able to flex my back muscles as easy. Again, that is my way.

It looks to me like you can straighten the bow arm out without changing your draw length.

That Pro diamond may not be the best t handle release to accomplish what you are trying to do.It requires trigger movement to go off.Very hard to get a consistant release with it.I had one and hunted with it quite succesfully and I also have a Chappy boss that has a set trigger,I was going to sell it but I let my daughter shoot it today and it doesn't look like I am getting it back.[:o]:D

I actually shoot a Short and Sweet II by Tru Ball(wrist release) and I use a high elbow and backtension to shoot it.I am shooting better with it than any other release ever before.I do use backtension release to practice and keep bt working properly but I just group better with the Short and Sweet.

c-903,you are correct,he is using a bt release and I did state earlier that you can't shoot with your elbow as high with a wrist release but you can still shoot a high elbow.

Yes this does become a personal thing, you can even look at many pros and their form will vary from one to the next but it just seems that "the best" have a lot in common.

I will second what Len said.Try to do one thing at a time and make evaluations.Maybe even make a log of what seems to work and what doesn't.After a while you may want to try things together and still keep a log.

I will add this, give changes an honest effort. It may take a day or two to decide that something doesn't work.I actually like to try to shoot a 3-d course after a change to see how I shoot under various shot conditions.Sometimes I can see potential with a change and other times I know to scrap it immediately.I recently made a bow hand position change and was shooting GREAT in the yard but when I hit the range I was throwing shots high and low.Scrapped that and went back to my original position and am shooting great.

Good luck.;)
