Pin size

During the summer practice sessions, I have started shooting longer ranges to make the "killing range" shots seem like short and easy "slam dunks" by comparison. However, once I get to 40 yards and beyond, my pin covers the bullseye causing me to develop a form of target panic because I'm trying to see the bull. I know I can make a big bullseye to aim at, but I want to hit a small spot--not just in the large bull.

With this is mind, what is a good size compromize for both target practice AND hunting. I currently have three .039 diameter pins on my bow and am considering buying smaller ones for longer range, but might want to use them for hunting as well.

If I could get a .019 pin for my Savage Pendulum Max, I'd have it in an instant. With today's high quality fibers and the no-peep, low light visibility wouldn't be an issue...

Too bad they only make .030... :( But... I have a plan :)

Dave, you can go to a .019 dia fiber, that will be almost 1/2 the diameter of your current fiber and this will make a difference if you're having problems seeing the target at greater distances.

personally I don't like to hunt with less than a .029 pin.

I am with Rack on this one,for hunting I use nothing smaller than .029 but for 3-d I use .019.

If you are just wanting something to practice with, you could just buy a .019 for your 40 yard pin but if you want to actually use it for hunting,go with a .029.

Ever consider a .039 for your first pin, a .029 for your second pin and a .019 for your third pin?

I use the .019 pins. With the CJ Dead Nuts Pro sight, I added an afterburner light, so low light hunting conditions are no longer a concern! The .019 pins really work great at longer distances.

I'm kinda on the fence with this one. I like the .019 pins and plan on getting a set for my Extreme Sniper sight, but I am still leary of the durability of them for hunting. But the pins on the Extreme Sniper sight are extremely well protected and beefy so I may get away with it.

The .019 pins will make a big difference on target and you should be able to accomplish what you are doing.

I have .019 pins on both my Spot Hogg Hogg-it's

If it is that dark I cant see the pins then it is too dark to be out hunting.

Unless I am pig hunting then I just turn on the sight light;)

I use an .029 for my first pin the the .019 pin's for the further distances.
