I'm shooting around 67# right now and using a Gold Tip 7595. These weigh 8.9G per inch. Is there a shaft out there that weighs less than that and yields the same amount of spine?

Fred,

Jeff may be able to help you out with this one to some extent as he is somewhat of a guru on arrow weights/spines, etc.. I am unsure what the spine rating is on that goldtip. Is it on the Goldtip website?

To give you something to compare it to though....my Beman ICS 340s (which should be the proper spine for your setup) are 8.9 grains per inch if memory serves me. They weigh about 20 grains more (finished weight) than the Carbon Express 400s I had been shooting prior but I believe they were of relatively equivalent spine.

Thanks Frank....from what I've heard, Bemans are stiff compared to Gold Tips of the same published rating.

Jeff, you out there?

I'm shooting some Axis 340's @ 9.5 gpi ! The 300's are stiffer and weigh at or over 10 gpi ! The 340's are shooting great for me at 75 lbs , 28" arrows, and 125 grain tips ! My total arrow weight with 4" vanes is exactly 450 grains ! Hope that helps !

Thanks CBM SC......I'm going to try and get my arrow weight down from 388G for 3-D. I guess the target bug has bitten. I think I'm overspined with 7595's and may try a 5575 or equivalent. Time to get crazy and see if speed really kills........

Gold Tip series 22 ultralights are very stiff, and I believe are lighter than 7595's

Not as durable though

Depending on your draw length and point weight, the PSE 300s may work. They are allot lighter than the 75/95s.

You could also try THESE. Depending on your arrow length and point weight you could either shoot the 340's @ 8.13 GPI or the 400's @ 7.41 GPI.

Fritz,

I shot Carbon Express 300's from my 02 BowTech Patriot SC at 67# and they shot great. They are an even 8 grains per inch. I was shooting at 28" draw length and a 27 inch arrow with a 100 grain point for a 355 grain arrow.

Fritz GoldTip Ultralight Series 22. they are slightly larger diameter than the Xt 7595 and weigh in at 7.3 gr per inch, you lose some of this with heavier inserts, and nock adapters(lighter than the lock nocks) needed for this shaft but with these component installed my 29" shafts weigh 261 grains without points or fletching. Also they are a little stiffer than the 7595 but should still tune very well out of your setup.
