I had to buy something today, so I thought I'd give this release a try. Was getting a little board with my current one.[&:] When I first started shooting with it, the good releases felt real sweet. Seemed like the few flyers I had were going about 3" to the right. I'm thinking I need to decrease the trigger tension. Of course I left my tool box at the house and had no allen wrenches.[:o] So, I just kept shooting with it the way it came. I might have gotten tired or changed something cause things went to crap real fast after that. Any one out there ever try this release? I have to figure out what I started doing different than before. Those perfect releases were held steady on the spot and a pleasant surprise when it went off. Some real nice pinwheels in the X. In the end there were times it just wouldn't go off. Any thoughts?

I am going to bump this up for you. I have seen the new Copper John releases down at the local shop but have not had the motivation yet to buy one. I think I would like to try it though.

Thanks Frank. I was going to try and keep it on page 1 for a couple days also. I really like it when it pounds the X. Hate it when I srew it up. I've only shot 2 styles of releases in my time, the Wynn with a glove, and the very common wrist strap trigger finger type(concho?).

I'm going to play around with trigger tension today. I never could shoot a good group without a hair trigger. On top of all that, the "nub" is on that hand. Just can't seem to get the pinky to pick up that end of the release. I would have bought the 2 or 4 finger model but they only had this one in stock. And I just had an itch to buy something yesterday.:)

Nub, I have walked that road so I know exactly what you are talking about. Here are a few of the symptoms I have found for the release "not wanting to go off" in my case.

1.I was not closing my hand down enough on the release and just found myself pulling and pulling and pulling and pulling with nothing happening...

2. I find that if I rotate and put just a little pressure on the release with my thumb I get a little better "back tension" release.

3.My anchor was just off slightly causing my hand to sit a little different and making it harder to pull and squeeze correctly.

4. I was just searching for the trigger, fixed this with a little trigger shoe.

5. Adjusting the travel and spring tension will help....


Obviously, with any new product you will have a learning curve. I did very well at first and once I was "used" to the release things got a little messy but I am cleaning up again. Been shooting very well since then... I hope this helps you out. I think a lot of it has to do with having a new and different sequence to get the release to fire. I believe in time it will become second nature just as it did with an index finger style. Let me know if any of this helps. TGK

Lets just say that I have a need to buy something as well. :) I will be heading down to the shop tomorrow so I may be "talked into" picking one up...:)

Well, I did a little better with it today. I kept reducing the trigger tension untill I noticed the spring was no longer in contact with the trigger.[:o] Still seemed to be hard to fire. Perhaps its just my hand, I could not tell a difference between full and none. It was when I began adjusting the travel that good things started happening. :) Got to where it fires properly with just the slightest effort to make a fist.:D Put a little of that trigger tension back on also. ;)

Shot great with it for a while, then started to have to tug again. I notice that the tiny allen screw for travel was backing out. Gonna have to fix that for sure. Perhaps with some loc tite once I'm used to seeing the proper location of the firing mechanisim(sp?) Or trigger and hook if you will. Shouldn't be a problem as long as I pay attention till I secure it.

One thing I'm not real crazy about, is the wrist strap. Rubs the dickens out of my wrist for one thing. For another, it has a second strap that attaches the release to the wrist strap. This strap slips a bit causing less than ideal trigger location. The slipping i'll prevent with a stitch or two once I'm comfortable with it. No big deal. Not sure what I'll do about the chaffing tho.

Over all I like the release. I like being able to have some influence over when it fires, along with a bit of back tension. I'm not planning on hunting with it, but you never know. Its worth the 60 bucks I paid for it.

I have the 4 finger model. I have experienced the same issues you have. I am currently adjusting the tension down trying to get it to go off sooner. There have been a couple of times I was pulling so hard I was shaking and could not get it to go off. You are right theough, when I get it right, it is sweet. I think hand position has nmore to do with it than anything. I do intend to use mine for hunting. It has all of the qualities I have been looking for in a hunting back tension release. A wrist strap, and a trigger so I at least have some control over when it fires. I have a Stan 4 finger, but I have never been able to overcome the "what if" scenario of not having control over it in the heat of the moment.

I may try the 2 finger version as well.

Overall I ampleased with it too. I hope I can get the trigger adjusted to my liking and I'll be a happy camper.

Mike; Adjust the travel screw clockwise till you see it just catching the tongue for the hook. It will go off easy! Keep that middle finger straight out.;)

Yeah, I think I have the tension about right. I'm working on the travel now. I agree it would be nice to have more padding in the strap though. Maybe we could put the release on a different brand of strap?

This creeping set screw sucks. Any ideas short of LocTite? It would be nice to be able to re-adjust as I get comfortable with it.
