Hoyt Cam size and speed ?
 

I was wondering. The stated speed that Hoyt put on their Xtec is 310. This is with a 7" brace height. I am assuming they are getting those numbers from the 28-31" cam. I purchased my bow with the 27-29 1/2" cam to allow my draw length to fall in the middle of this range for better efficiency. I measured my brace height and it is actually under the 7" because of the smaller cams. Being a shorter brace, wouldn't the speed actually increase? Or, would the fact that its a smaller diameter cam negate any gain? I'm sure that if in fact I would gain more speed it would be so slight that it wouldn't matter, but I'm just curious from a technical standpoint.

You would think. Maybe with a specific cam measuring from one size cam to the next this may be true but actual diameter of the cam would not seem to be a major factor in relation to speed. Take a look at the Hoyt Spiral or Bowtech Dually. Both are relatively small diameter cams in relation to others on the market and yet both are fast in their respective categories. I am sure there is more to it than that.

This is an interesting question though. Last year I sold a Razortec to a fellow board member but later decided I would like to try another one. Instead of having to wait to order (because of my draw length "issue") I just bought another Razortec that the local shop had on the shelf. I then swapped bows so that I could get the 31 inch draw Razortec back in my possession. What the other member found was that he was getting more speed out of the shorter draw range model than he was out of the larger cam model.

That would fall right in line with what you are suggesting mm.
