new hoyt xtech

do you guys/gals think this is a good bow for a beginner it has a 40-80# draw weight and lots of room for growth

The draw weight on the bow are in 10# increments. For example my Xtec is a 50#-60# model.

The draw length on my bow is 27" - 29 1/2".That is quite a bit of adjustment but not what is listed in the catalog. The catalogs can be misleading.

Now,about the bow.It is a great bow and is really shootable but may be on the expensive side for a beginner.I would reccomend it if price isn't an issue. There are some really good bows that are cheaper, like the Ultramag by Hoyt. This may actually be a better bow for a beginner. It has a brace height of 7 1/8" and an axle to axle of 36".Reflex of only 1/2" so this should be a very shootable bow for only about $360.00,depending on where you buy it ,of course.

Good luck with your choices.;)

Ditto with what TFOX stated. I am shooting an Xtec right now and love it. Very fogiving with decent speed.

If price isn't an issue, I would highly recommend this bow. But if you're looking for a more inexpensive bow for a beginner, there are plenty out there at a cheaper price. Try checking out Ebay. If you wan't a Hoyt, you can pick up a last year model Cybertec, which the Xtec replaced for a good price.

I was pretty impressed with the overall feel of the Xtec. Enough to recommend it to someone who is interested. However, as mentioned above, when you consider the price there are other bows out there that may be a better buy.

And as Tfox made mention to above, when you see "40-80" pound weights listed for a bow's description that means that the bow is offered in peak weights of 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80 pounds. Each of those is adjustable approximately 10 lbs lower in weight. So, an 80 lb peak weight model is only adjustable down to about 70 lbs...not all the way down to 40.
