RE: Carbon Express CXL arrows
Hey Pinwheel I read on one of your post on this thread where you said you use a 24 hour epoxy on all components on all carbon arrows. Do you also mean fletchings?
Thanks Dave |
RE: Carbon Express CXL arrows
Dave-
No, I normally use fletchtite or flexbond after first thoroughly cleaning and prepping the shafts to remove all carbon dust from them which would otherwise cause insufficient bonding.(prepping is the most important aspect of carbon arrow building, make sure they are FREE of all external carbon dust before fletching!) "Carbon glues"(cyanoacrylate) work well as far as quick bonding,(and I used to use them also) but leave a "halo" that is a telltale sign of a chemical reaction that IMO could possibly weaken the surrounding material, and I now stay away from them myself, even tho they are supposedly "specifically made" for carbon shafts. My thinking on this is that if the cyanoacrylate is a "no-no" for all internal components, I feel it cannot be much good for external either, especially with the extremely pourous finishes. With a Micro-smooth finish you might be able to get away with it however, and I know lots of archers that use the stuff everyday. Maybe I'm just "pickier" than most! <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Just my own thoughts, Pinwheel 12 Edited by - Pinwheel 12 on 02/15/2002 05:32:48 |
