sight & peep?
 

I am shooting .039 pins and the largest peep sight now. I am going to shoot 3D very shortly and wonder if .019 pins and a smaller peep would help me shoot better?

I went from .029 to .019 this last year and it made a big difference. The smaller pins cover up less of your target which allows you to pick out a smaller aiming point. As for hunting goes, I just put an afterburner light on my copper john dead nuts pro, and my pins glow like a full moon on a clear night [8D].

It might... In theory, the small pin gives you a smaller aiming point and the smaller peephole diameter gives you less margin of error. But that only works if your eyes are young enough and good enough to see that itty bitty pin out there, thru that itty bitty peep.

Heck, my eyes aren't good enough to see any size pin any more, even without a peep in front of my eye!;) Well, it did get to the point where I found I could shoot better without the sights than I could with 'em.

Anyway...

I used to customize my peeps. I'd get a Fletcher TruPeep, the smallest size they make. Then I'd go to the range with a set of small drills, up to 1/16", and try to put myself into the worst shooting light conditions I could manage, both in the dark and glaring sun. I'd take a drill out and open up the hole in the peep a bit. Draw and look through to check it. Upsize to the next drill and check. Upsize again. I'd keep at it until the peep was just big enough for me to see clearly under the worst lighting conditions. Then I'd take a magic marker and black out the bright metal again.

Pin size... That's mostly personal preference and what best works for your vision.

I hear ya Arthur. Any more when I look through my peep my pins plur. I'm far sighted I guess. I went to the .019 pins so the blur is smaller. Believe it or not it helped. Tho .029 are too big even for hunting. I have a HTM sights on my Darton and a Cooper John on my Merlin. Both have a round pin guard. I do as Arthur does and drill out the smallest peep so it exactly matches the out side ring of my sight. That helps my consistencey with pin placement. I use to center the pin. Now I center the ring. My anchor is more consistence as long as I don't drop my head. Jerry

Good idea about the circle to circle .I have also went to 019 optics from029.I also add a sight extension and that makes them smaller also but you pick up every little movement in your shooting form.I take the extension off for hunting.THE peep i use 1/8 hunter true peep.For the deer hunter might go with the ones with the rubber tube thangy.

It pulls the peep straight.And if your sights have a sqaure sight houseing you may change to sights that have a round houseing or sight gaurde.This will make you more accurate and consistante
