Okay here is another question for the board. I plan on hunting from the ground 90% of the time for elk and deer. I am a fair judge of distance however from your experiance do you think there is time to use a rangefinder before a shot and are they worth the money?? It seems to me you might not have time to use it in this type of situation.

A range finder would be a good investment. I have one and when I set up on a bull, I will range objects around me before I begin calling. I wouldn't say that is neccessary but will help you when the big boy comes looking for love.

I would say yes for rifle hunting, but for bowhunting I would'nt bother with the Range Finder. I like to limit myself to within 20-25 yards, it makes it that much more exciting also the closer you get. And by the way Elkcrazy sometimes bigboy when coming in is looking for a FIGHT!!! :D

The rangefinder you use when you have found the area your going to set-up,then you range out all the periference's.When your elk walk's into that zone you don't need to range him, all you need to do is stick him because you ranged your area previous to him showing.
