Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Apparently specs were emailed to dealers this am-
http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showth...threadid=53188 The Classic 36" axle to axle 7" brace height 3.6 pounds ibo rating 310fps draw length 27-31 draw weight 40-70 Max Cam Harmonic Damping System String suppressors |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
for a 7" brace I sure want more than 310fps.
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I saw that this morning, and for purely selfish reasons, I hope some of that is wrong. I was hoping for shorter ATA, and something different than the max cam, which I am shooting now. Maybe it has been updated/modified? The lower brace would be nice for me though.
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
YEEHAAA!!!!! I'll have to shoot it, but looks like I'm saving up for a new bow!!!!!!!!! 3.6 lbs. w/ all the bells and whistles.....I knew they could do it!
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Sounds like they made it from a hodgepodge of parts from all the other bows they've already developed.
I think I'll still stick with the smooth-drawing characteristics of my Straightline Cam, and the higher brace height for only 5 fps difference. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
MQ1,
There will definately be a shoot-off between my MQ1 and the Classic when it comes time to buy. To make me part with my MQ1, the Classic will have to make me "tingle" if you know what I mean. I guess when I saw Max cam, I thought they meant the Straightline Max cam. Right or wrong? I don't care for the draw characteristics of the HP cam. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I definitely know what you mean, CG. That's why I took my MQ in with me a couple days ago when I shot the Outback. I had a hard time telling the Outback was better, if at all, compared to the MQ. Would I trade even for it? Yeah, probably -- but I definitely wouldn't part with several hundred dollars to obtain one.
Maybe you're right; who knows? But Mathews has always referred to the MaxCam in their literature as the one used starting with the Z-Max, and on the Ultra Max, the FeatherMax, the FX... I know you know which one I'm talking about now. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Yuck....don't care much for the cam on my father-in-laws FX.....
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I don't know how many of ya'll know this .......but the original spec's on a MQ-1 were with a 7.5" brace height and an IBO 310 fps ! I saw an add back years ago that said it had a 312 IBO (& I believe it)! Mine is a 96' model and has a 30-R 70% cam. I was shooting a 400 grain arrow at 290 fps with it on 71lbs with a peep ,loop, catwiskers, and string leeches.
My Ultra2(w/loop,peep,leeches and 65% cam) hit 296 with the same arrows and my LX (loop ,peep, on 80%)hits 293 with the same !! When Mathews dropped the spec's on the MQ-1 to a 308 IBO & changed the cam numbers to SL numbers a few years back......all the speeds I started hearing from folks were slower than mine (or a friend's who has one with a 29-R cam). His 29" MQ-1 would shoot 293 with a 355 grain arrow ......set up with catwiskers, peep, and 4 brass nocks !! Anyway..........I think it would be easy to get a MQ-1 (or MQ-1 based Classic)with an HP-cam up to 315 and maintain the brace height !! But I'm not a bowyer either !! :D To me .......the HP cam is a little smoother, has a better valley, and has a dead backwall(unlike the straightlines). My big wish was for a MQ-1 with string suppressors ,new camo, and an HP cam..............that possibly would be my last bow for a few years !!! ;) Thanks for the info. Rangeball !!! |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Thanks for the info,Rangeball.I was hoping for better news than that. They should of just left the MQ1 in their line-up.I was looking for the Classic to have the HP cam,36 ata, string suppressors, rollers, ham damps, at lease 7 1/2 bh,new camo, and somewhere in the 315-320 ibo.I'll just hang on to my LX until I can get a look see.Who knows, maybe I'll get another Bowtech...Bob
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
It's a Feathermax/FX w/ vib dampeners and string suppressors.
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
It is just what I expected, I don't know why everyone is so upset, it is a great bow! "Don't judge a book by it's cover!!" You guys have not even shot it, and you say what a worthless idea, and trestand, they have used the HP Cam on the LX & Outback!! And PMantle, a shorter ATA when the said like the MQ1, they meant it! MQ1 is 37"! And I would not worry about the speed "speed is not everything"!!
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
JeffK,The ata of 36in. is what I'm looking for,but I would of really liked to of seen a 7 1/2 or better bh.What about the V-Lock system,or is this bow with their older style limb pockets?I am glad to see they reduced the weight by about a half pound.Look,I did'nt like the LX the first time I looked at it,but after shooting it,I sold my Patriot S-C to buy the LX.I'll check this bow out,and see for myself. Expectations are premeditated resentments,so maybe this is where I am without looking at this bow....Bob

RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I think it is a smart move on Mathews part. The MQ1 was arguably their best/biggest bow of all time...at least in my experience personally and here on the forums. Reviving it with some new features sounds like a smart thing to do.
However, I agree that I would have liked to have seen one of the newer, rounder single cam designs implemented on it. What is the nock travel issue going to be like if it is the original maxcam design? |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Man............disappointment !!!!!!!!!!!![:@]
From the looks of the picture and talk over at AT...........the Classic is just a Feathermax with the new stuff..........not a MQ-1 based bow !![>:] Orig.spec's on a Feathermax : 36" ATA ,7"BH, IBO 310, Maxcam, weight.....3.2 lbs ! Ole Matt should sell about 2 of these this year !!;) But I guess if he made a revised MQ-1 with an HP cam..........he might have cut too much into his Outback sales !!!!!![:o] No revised Feathermax for me !!!!! [:'(] |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I am also disappointed, but in reading more and more of these forums, it does appear that there are many who do not like the VFT trend in bow design. This bow will continue to give those folks an option. It is way too much like my Ultra Max to consider.

ORIGINAL: Rangeball in reading more and more of these forums, it does appear that there are many who do not like the VFT trend in bow design. Personally, I like the look, quite a bit. They were saying they did not like the look. Didn't one or two of the guys in the Champion/Bowtech competition say that? Maybe it was just that one guy that couls not stand the Bowtech. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I've owned about 10 mathews, and the ultralite was one of my all time favorites. If this is that, I say bring it on.
The MQ1 was my least favorite bow! I know I'm the odd guy out on that one. I got a blue 70/30, and just hated it. I liked the Rival Pro through Conquest stuff a lot better. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
There's a pic of the classic on the main forum at AT.
Fugly was the first word to pop into my head when I saw it... |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I looked at the picture on AT,looks like an old Feathermax...Bob

Some more fuel for the fire:D
mathews new camo is IMO the ugliest camo I have almost(PSE) ever seen. The light colors are PINK man PINK[:'(]. I liked the 03 camo There has to be some dude named Liberachi running around that shop[:o]:D |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
YIKES!!!
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
If it's a sweet shooter it will sell--if it's nothing special then it will be a major mistake on MATHEWS' part!IMHO,it's not looking too promising but MATHEWS usually does come out with a great product--i stress 'usually'

RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I like the new Realtree HD, to me it is a great change from the Realtree Xtra Gray!
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Rack,Were you being serious?????????? Pink ..........I don't get it !!
I think it's definately more grey and black.............but where does the pink come in ? Did I miss a picture somewhere or something ? Didn't you go shoot an Outback ? What did you think (besides the camo)? :D |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
No roller guard on this new bow???[:o] I think it looks like a Parker UltraLite 35.
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Are you guys really forming an opinion based on how it looks? Whatever happened to judging a bow based on how it feels and how it shoots? There have been plenty of bows with a similar design that have shot great.
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
There is a Roller Guard on every new Mathews! And the new Parker Phoenix looks like an LX!!
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Just my opinion, but alot of people in my area sold their Feathermax's and wished they hadn't. It was a great bow and if it's back with some perks I think I will be a hit. I still have my Feathermax and use it for hunting. I went to an Ultra 2 (3 years ago) for a target bow drawing 56lbs getting 280fps out of it. I understand that this bow the Ultra 2 has or is going to be discontinued, that's disappointing if its true. Damn good bow! I still believe if it says Mathews on it, it's quality. I still have people trying to buy my old Feathermax, but I won't give it up. Give it a chance.

RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
JeffK,
Sorry man, but the pics from the ATA show the Classic with a regular carbon cable guard. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I'm pretty sure that the roller guard is only used on the bows that have parallel limbs. There would be too much natural backward cable movement on the classic, with its straight riser and more vertical limbs.;)
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I agree. The slide will move much too far for the roller to work, without binding the cables.
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
That was the Classic, I sure think it should be more of a parallel limb design!
|
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
Jeff K:
There is a picture on a thread over at ArcheryTalk.com. I'm not as savvy as others with how to post links and such. The Classic is much like the Feathermax, but it has harmonic dampeners and string suppressors. It has a straight carbon cable guard rod. It is NOT a parallel limb bow from the pictures that I have seen. I can't imagine that it is a bad bow in any way except that early indications seemed to point to a new upgrade of the very popular MQ 1, and that it would have the HP cam on it like the LX. This bow is not what many MQ 1 fans were waiting for, and that is probably why some guys are disappointed. |
RE: Mathews Classic Specs sneak peak
I like parallel limb tech, as on about half the Mathews to date, starting back with those vapour bows or whaever the were called. But on game, there aren't any points in it, and few in the field either. This style has certain looks and serviceability advantages, and potentialy lighter weight. I'm for it. I'd have to see everything else of course. :)
There are other brands like Hoyt that still use this general geometry, maybe there is someone who wants to have a normal looking bow, but want a Mathews too. |
