Went to the pro shop yesterday between my 800 mile flight and 350 mile drive. I tried the Cybertec and the Havoctec and I was very unimpressed. I also shot a 28" and 29" Q2XL, and a 28" SQ2. No bowtechs at the shop though. The havoctec and the cybertec IMO, sucked. Sorry Hoyt fans, but I couldn't believe the hand shock that I felt in both bows. I had 4 bows out at one time, shooting one, then the next. The cybertec was the better of the 2 hoyts, but I shot that, then the SQ2 right after, and the SQ2 was definately short and sweet. All bows were set up the same... NAP1000 rest, string silencers, no sights, no peep, no stabilizer, no limbsavers. The SQ2 had barely any recoil. Unbelievable. That is a trick little bow. It had a 28" draw and felt pretty good, considering I'm shooting a 27" now. I tried both a 28 and 29" draw on the Q2XL, and the 29" felt perfect, with the 28" being okay. I could easily notice the speed difference between the two 65# bows. (same arrows)
I talked to the owner about the big show since he went to it and asked him about the Mathews bow blowing up. He said that a guy dry fired the bow and the string broke on it. He's heard the blown out of proportion stories as well, and blamed it on internet rumors.
At least I can honostly say I gave Hoyts a fair try now. I don't see what Frank and Rob get out of them, but if it works for em, hey, go for it. If bowtech doesn't pan out to my expectations, I think I'm going to pick up an SQ2 and hang on to the Q2XL so I have a bow for every application of hunting. I swapped cams with a guy online for a 29" cam, and hopefully that'll be in next week. The dealer said he wasn't overly impressed with the Legacy or Icon or the Bowtech Patriot. His pick is still the Q2. He did say that the string suppressors worked well though. Guess I'll have to shoot em myself and find out for sure.
Is there an easier way to take the locks off the pin to remove the cam on the Q2's? I had a heck of a time, breaking two fingernails back pretty deep, scratching the limb camo a little and ended up having to pound the lock washer straight again. Glad I only had to take one off to get that pin out! I'll probably put a new one on since the old one has been tweeked.

Well at least your doing your homework huh?
I'm glad you found your true draw.....don't ya just want to slap that other guy silly?
I'm actually surprised at your impression of the Hoyts!?.....But hey you shot em'.
I shot a Havoctec at 28" and 70# and it was very smooth to me.......I also shot an SQ2 and I didn't notice a HUGE difference.....some but not as far as to say it SUCKED
Frank's gonna love that one. heheh.
ANyway......whatever you choose I'm glad your getting one that fits.
Funny how different peoples impressions of bows vary from person to person.....I shot the Q2 and the Patriot myself.....and had heard from dealers who shot both decidedly like the feel of the Patriot better.
It really is a personal thing.
Oh and about that Mathews "Rumor"......I wasn't there, but talked at length with a guy who was standing right next to one of the (2) that let go.....he "thinks" one was dry fired, or a string let go as you said(he didn't witness).....but the other one definitely WASN'T a string that let go(according to him), the RISER cracked in half.
I am stating for the record that I cannot verify this , but this source was RIGHT THERE when it happened.....he's a rep for another manufacturer so he could have other motives....but he sounded pretty sincere to me.
All this really doesn't mean a hill of beans either, cause a cracked riser could happen to anyone at anytime, so if that IS what happened it could have just been the worst of luck.
Funny how rumors work too huh?

Matt, it is really interesting how different bows fit different people. I really disliked the feel of the Hoyt, but still would recommend somebody new to try them out to see if it fits them. To me though they sucked. No offense to any hoytians. I have yet to try any bowtechs.
Could the grip be a different factor with my feelings on the hoyts? Since the grip is so much smaller, it felt better, but right at release, I felt as if the bow was going to rattle itself in half. I noticed the same thing in Oct. of 2000 when I tried a couple other hoyts. It was very obvious to me, the less handshock in the SQ2 from the cybertec.
I did shoot the hoyts with an open mind though. I don't think it was mental recoil that I felt. I can't bash hoyt to hard, heck, I have one in my bow rack! No wheels on it though.
Heck, I even test drove a freeking Volvo yesterday and was overly impressed with it! The new S-60 AWD. I never thought I would plant my rear in a volvo... and like it! That thing handled like a dream, even on slick roads, through a mountain range with blizzard conditions and pure ice on the roads. I made 300 miles in 5 hours, with a 1/2 hour pitstop to help out a rolled over pathfinder.

last fall i tried some hoyts and had the same exact reaction as you did. but hey...i guess to each his own. it doesnt matter what you shoot, as long as you shoot it well.

I have been noticing for some time how diffrent bows fit diffrent people. I shoot a sq2 and have been looking to shoot something diffrent this year. I shot the hoyts a didnt like them at all either. A while back I was having a problem with my mathews (caused by the dealer putting the wrong length string on)and wanted to change to another company I went out and shoot every top end bow that there was and I couldnt find anything that shot close to my mathews. I am not a dihard towards mathews. I am open to all bows but I just really like the way they shoot. I Have been waiting to shoot the patriot but after seeing the pictures it sure is one funny looking bow.

Way to go Artic. You proved them all wrong!! Atleast you gave them a fair shot. Don't let that Frank hassle you too much.

Sounds to me like a die hard Mathews fan here that just found out how sweet those new Hoyts are, but is just too Mathews loyal to admit it. It was a dead give away when you said they really sucked, because I've been reading this forum and others for quite some time now, and have not heard anything but good things about both. I've seen a number of comparisons on here between the CyberTec and the Q2, and everyone except I think one said that the CyberTec was quieter, AND faster! I've shot both the CyberTec and HavocTec, and I thought the CyberTec was the quietest and most recoil free bow I have ever shot. The HavocTec had a little vibration, but not bad, and was also very quiet. And yes I have shot the Mathews Q2 and SQ2, and IMO the Hoyt's were definitly quieter, smoother, and faster. It is my opinion that the Hoyt's took a definate step ahead of Mathews for 2002, but that's just my opinion, and everyone is entitled to thiers just as you are.

I also cast my vote for the Hoyt! I shot the Q2 and cybertec and havoctec back to back. To ME.. The cybertec was the winner. I used to shoot a MQ-1 and I think the cybertec is every bit as quiet and vibration free as the MQ-1 was. And the hoyts are faster, and lighter than the mathews which is important to me. But...everyone likes and sees things different and thats fine! But I do get a feeling from what Ive seen Mathews come out with this year, that Mathews is on the way down! I just havent seen/read much "hype" as in past years when they unveiled there lineup. This year not much excitement over this years new bows!? Or am I wrong?

Nope, no argument here. They suck. I admit it. I am even selling my havoctec as we speak on ebay. They are slow. They have split limbs. The new dual track idler system is a gimick as is the TEC riser design. They wasted millions on research and development.....
One thing I will mention is that the Havoctec and Cybertec come standard with limbsavers. To remove them takes away from the intended affect of the bow....same thing as if the harmonic dampeners or sand limb pockets would be taken out of/off of a Mathews or Bowtech. Ofcourse there would be more recoil.
Good luck with whatever you pick Jerry. You are the one that needs to be happy with it.
