Any technical aspects I should know about in choosing the proper tip weight for my arrows?

Here are my arrow specs:

27" 7595 Gold Tips
5" Shield Cut Feathers

I currently have 75 grain and 100 grain heads to try out. I haven't received the fletching yet, so I can't comment on flight except for some old aluminum arrows I put through it. Should I go with a heavier head given my feather size, or stay with the 75 grain Muzzy's for hunting?

Also, how close to the back of the arrow does the back of your fletching come? I would think that as far back as it can go would be the right thing to do, but I never see this configuration and was wondering why.

Go to Gold Tips Web site

They have calculators that will figure FOC for you when you plug in your numbers.

Look for a FOC of 10 -15%

The 100 grain will probably get you in there pretty good.

The back of my feathers are about .5" from the nock

fritz, remember to add 15 grains for the insert, 15 grains for the lock nocks, and then the weight of your feathers. I had a friend who kept telling me that it was impossible for him to get a heavy enough arrow, but he wasn't add the fletchings, insert, and nock weight to his total.

For instance, my new GoldTip 3-D Pro 75/95

28.25" X 8.9 grains per inch = 251.425

251.425 grains + nock weight (15 grains) = 266.425

266.425 grains + insert weight (15 grains) = 281.425

281.425 grains + vanes weight (8grains X 3 vanes = 24 grains) = 305.425

305.425 grains + tip weight (100 grains) = 405.425 grains total weight

According to my calculations, that arrow should fly out of my bow at about 275 f.p.s. which will give me around 68 ft-lbs of KE :D

Gold Tip's been redesigning their website, I believe. Go to Jackson's site and use the arrow weight calculator. It'll figure FOC also.

Could someone help me calculate my arrow speed and KE? I'm looking at the "Arrow Energy and Speed Calculations" page on bowjackson.com. I know my arrow weight (388 grains), string addons (25 grains), draw weight (68 lbs), and draw length (30 in). I do not know the SE/PDF Ratio or Efficiency of my bow or how to find it. I also have no clue what Virtual Mass is.

My bow is a 2003 Hoyt MT Sport Cam & 1/2.
>IBO Speed - 290 fps
>A2A Length - 34.5 in
>Brace Height - 8.38 in

SE/PDF ratio is stored energy divided by peak draw weight. You have to plot the graph of your bow's force draw curve to calculate that.

Virtual mass.... I've been trying to figure out what that is for the past 30 years and never have gotten it. There are some concepts my brain simply refuses to work on, and that's one of 'em. (I think it's got more common sense than I do. :))

Anyone have a page link for specs on Gold Tip arrows? Their site is fubar and I need info specifically on the Gold Tip XT 7595.

Also, these new nocks with the Allen head screw in them are new to me. How hard can I torque this thing to insure the nock stays set and are there any tricks to preventing it from rotating after tightened? Is there a chance I could split the end of the arrow by turning too much?

mrfritz, best thing to do with those nocks is to pitch them and stick in some eastons...
