.029 Vs. .019 sight pins
Was just wondering if you guys thought that a .019 sight pin was too small for hunting. I have always used a .029, but thought that .019 would be a better choice for 3D. But don't want to change sights again before hunting season next year. Does the .019 gather enough light at dusk?

I LIKE THE 0.29 OR 0.30 THE BEST BUT THAT IS MY OPINION.

RE: .029 Vs. .019 sight pins
In some things the smaller the better. I've been using the .019 dia. pins for A couple of years now and love them. They still glow like christmas trees at dusk too. But I only use green & yellow, I don't feel that red glows as well. And if you look at the light spectrum the color red fades first while greens and blues are last to fade, if that has anything to do with it.

RE: .029 Vs. .019 sight pins
If you make longer shots (30 to 50 yards) I think they are a must! I like them even with close shots. So many of the sights have good fiber collection designs that .019 is great.
Good Luck! |
RE: .029 Vs. .019 sight pins
I prefer the .019 pins for my longer pins >30 yards, and the .029 pins for the short yardage ones.
At the longer distances the .019 pins cover less of the target. |
RE: .029 Vs. .019 sight pins
Actually Redline, the .019 pin covers less of the target than a .029 at any distance. But I understand what you were getting at.
Depending on how far your sight is from your eye, a .029 pin will cover about 0.7" of the target at 20 yards. At 30 yards, a .029 pin would cover slightly more than 1". But switch that 30 yard pin to a .019 and it only covers 0.7", same as the .029 at 20 yards. I personally prefer the smaller .019 pins. I feel like I'm a little more accurate with smaller pins combined with a smaller peep. |
RE: .029 Vs. .019 sight pins
My first pin is .29 but all the rest are .19. I like the smaller pins at longer distances and they glow just the same. I'm going to all .19's after the season is over.

RE: .029 Vs. .019 sight pins
Swamp Dawg, this is something I feel you should try for yourself. Guys here most likely have expressed 'their experience', (and that's all well and good).
But that may or may not work for you. Last year I bought the .029 Matrix ST ViPIN TR, my buddy (same age, 49) bought the same sight with the .019 pins--I ordered it directly from Trophy Ridge after seeing them at the ATA show. Well thank God I ordered the .029' for myself. On my buddy's bow, I could NOT see his pins--I mean I could--BUT, it was not what I liked. With my style I fade the pin and concentrate on the target--but there wasn't any pin to see with the .019--it was as if nothing was there---yet the .019 pins work great for him. What's good for the goose may not be good for the gander!!! Check this out for yourself--JMHO. |
