A sleeper from BowTech!!!

A few weeks back I posted on here to see if anyone has had any experince or any comments on the pro 40 wheely bow......WELL.......I recently got my Pro 40 wheely bow and am planning to use it for my winter 3-d league. I wanted a bow that was very, very smooth and longer ata without really sacrificing speed and wieght. I currently have the bow maxed out at 62.5 lbs. It is a 29" 60LB model. The BC said 297 with a 300gr arrow. After I set it up with a Plat. Premier, an extreme 5 pin (silver) and a 10" stealth stabilizer with 10 degree offset, and a 305 grain cxl250 at 27.75 (AMO) I got approx. 260-265 ft per sec. out of it.[:o]:D Needless to say I was impressed. [8D] Everyone that shot it at my local shop was very impressed[:-]. They could not beleive that a "WHEEL" bow could be that quick. I am not going to say it is fast but it is very quick for that set-up and draw weight.;)

Everyone was VERY impressed with the SMOOTH draw cycle and the BALANCE of the bow. Not to mention how quiet it was. I know that at 60lbs it will not sound like a rocket when you shoot it but the bow was just sickning smooth.

The bow just spits those cxl's out right into the 10 ring. The shootability of this bow is nuts. I Have the nock point set just a C-hair high of center with a string nock above and below the arrow and a string loop. I have a tru - peep sight (medium). I almost forgot to mention that I am shooting all the bowTech stuff..There "hush kit" and I am telling youit really works. I was not too impressd with the prior BT hush kit but I think they finally got this one nailed.

I think alot of people are over looking this bow but for anyone shooting alot of targets..........(all you FITA guys) This bow is perfect you feel no fatigue after shooting 30-50 targets. It is EFFORTLESS!!:D did I say that it was EFFORTLESS> because If I did not mention that it was EFFORTLESS [8D]then I want to say that It is EFFORTLESS. I did not feel like I shot 30 shots out of it. That is what I feel a 3-d bow should be. I really do not feel like I sacrifice alot in speed either. the bow is just a really sweet shooter. ;) That is why "I" feel that it is a true sleeper in BowTechs line-up.

Hell it could be a great young teen bow or womens bow too. who knows. I feel this bow has alot of potential for BowTech.

These are just my mad ramblings and humble opinion ;) please feel free to comment or ask me questions that I might not have answered in this short.......yet somewhat of a review.

Congrats on your bow.

One question; why do you think you lost 35 fps from the birth certificate with only a 1 1/4" drop in draw length?

RE: A sleeper from BowTech!!!

Ol' Frankie is thinking of his "OTHER" set of CXL 250's. The open class set weighs 305grs w/ 1.5" vanes.......the ones he chrono'd are his HUNTER class arrows and they are an inch longer with 4" vanes. I think they weigh probably about 320+ grs.
Plus he's shooting a Tru-Peep, a loop with 2 tie in nock sets as well as the Hush Kit.

Geez, leave the guy alone for 5 minutes.;):D

My bad Radman........I thought he had a 30" model that he put 27" mods in.
You are correct.

CRAP[:@] I hate when I do that.......Matt is right I listed the wrong arrow. It was MY hunter class arrow that is 350 gr.s not 320. MY BAD:eek: Thanks Matt. It is late........

The loss in speed is from my short draw and 50grains of extra arrow weight. Also the speeds are a very close estimate through the ITS chrono so they are close but at this point til I get a chance to officially chrono it that is the best measure that I have.

I have always operated under the assumption that a great deal of Bowtech's speed was generated through the use of an exceptionally stiff draw cycle. Ofcourse, that opinion was changed to some extent after I bought the 2003 Patriot SC which has a more "shapely" draw cycle than the previous year's model and yet still generates excellent speed. However, with a smooth drawing bow like the Pro 40 wheelie, what are your thoughts as to where the speed is coming from?

Frank? Matt? Jeff? Pat?

I will be picking up one of these "sleepers" shortly. It is a used one though. KIDD, is your bow a 29" that you put different modules on? If so, do you have the 29" modules from the bow? I am getting a bow that currently has a 28" draw, and I will be looking for 29" modules. Let me know if you might have a set of modules that you would want to sell. Thanks.

I don't have any experience w/ the Wheel bow myself...maybe I'll be able to rectify that in 2004.:D

Jeff,

Heh..it's too late..you've been bit! Second BT on the way, huh?

Actually for your situation, it should be perfect for you.

Joe PA I do have the 29" mods but I will be hanging on to them. Goodluck with your bow I am sure you will enjoy it.:)

Thanks anyway, Frank.:D

After your post, and a few others on various boards, I am convinced that this is the bow for me. Best of luck with yours as well.

Picked up a used Pro40 wheelie in Black and pewter for spots this winter and 3-D this spring. This thing is sweet. It sure likes the X's, and the draw curve is very nice. Not to mention the fact that it is absolutely the nicest looking bow you've ever laid eyes on.

Frank, it must be a mystery where they get the speed. No one seems to know, huh????[:-]

I know that wheely is a smooth character. Tried the Pro40 in the F cam and I really HAD myself convinced until then that I wouldn't invest in a new one until that test drive.

Now it really has me bothered.[:o]

LOL at JeffB:D Maybe "sweet bow Joe" would go over a little better;) HeHe[8D]

What he said was "No sweet JOE PA"

My sons would agree that I am not too sweet most of the time.;)

I'm guessing that the original JOE PA isn't too sweet this year, after the season the Lions had.[X(]

When I get my Wheely, I will put it on the crankboard, and see what the draw curve is like. I'm guessing it stores more energy than you'd think. It probably just does not store too much energy late in the draw, or increase weight late in the draw. That was the only thing that I didn't like about the Pro 38 DC.;)

Hey Chief,

Where'd ya try out the Pro40 FC at?

I'm headed of to Indiana tomorrow and should be down around your area (Jasper) by the weekend and I'll be hitting Sportsmans Unlimited.

Regards, Pat

Yup, that's the shop. I saw it laying there and gave it a good lookover and had to fondle it a bit. I almost got out the door and everything would have been fine- but John spoke up "hold on,...I want you to shoot this bow". And I was doing so well. I really was, I promise. I've been doing great at avoiding the 2004 Bowtech threads and all. Now it's all over. [:o]

Really Pat, they just keep getting better. I guess the people have asked for smooth because BT answered the call with that cam system. They will be known for much more than speed....

If you can give me a heads up on when you'll be here, I'll make sure to be part of the welcome wagon;)!

-Chief

BTW, we had a rep in from another line and all of our "bow guys" were present and the very first unit he handed to John for him to shoot split a lower limb out the first time drawn! What could the odds be of that???? He had another one I've started calling ol' mule. It actually stings your fingers. We had the rep shooting one of his higher end models against the Blackhawk. He didn't have much to say about that.....he sure did have plenty else to talk about though. We did have fun with him . ...just thought I'd share...
