New Martin Ad...

Say what you will about thier advertising, but, Oh My...

http://www.archerytalk.com/vb/showth...threadid=45321

The first paragraph talks about how Larry Hatfield won with this bow. I wondered why they didn't just show Larry holding the bow, but then I scrolled down and say why. Somehow I don't think he'd do that tank and jean shorts any justice :)

I don't know - doesn't make sense to me

Looks like a whisker biscuit rest on that recurve???

;)

LMAO:):) After looking more closely, I noticed that the girl has a recurve, but the add is referring to a longbow. I guess they figure we won't pay that any attention with the pretty girl in the picture, or maybe the curves of the recurve fit better with her curves.

Rangeball 12-10-2003 10:57 AM

RE: New Martin Ad...

Live2bowhunt, I missed it too, the first few times :)

You need to scroll farther right than her to see the long bow. I got to her and stopped... :)

Rack, that's one shoot through I wouldn't mind trying out... :)

I for one am glad I don't shoot a Martin bow anymore. Archery should be a family sport and that is definately not what Martin Archery is trying to sell these days.

Well cepba, just exactly what - in your estimation - ARE they trying to sell?

Geeze! Lighten up a little. Sure its tacky but its different. Much better than two bow companies (of which I won't name) attacking each other over whose cam is better.

Besides, think about it. What are ads for........to get our attention. I never bought a bow soley because of an advertisement.

I think I might need to take a second look at that ad...just to reevaluate it....It was Mathews right??

Now just because a few of us are knuckle draggers does not make us Cro Magnon...or Neanderthal at that. It just means that God gave us a little bit longer arms....;)

Arthur P 12-11-2003 07:04 AM

RE: New Martin Ad...

And us guys with longer arms are longer in 'other departments' as well, ya know.:D

Heck, Coug. I wouldn't call Martin's ads tacky at all. They're a rather pleasant break from all the other drab ads I see in magazines. You know what I'm talking about! After all, who would you rather look at in an advertisement - that girl or Smilin' Chuck? I know which one I vote for. LOL

Well, if Jeff can keep your quote about arrows in his Signature then maybe I need to "borrow" this one. :D

You were talking about feet, right Arthur?

After all, who would you rather look at in an advertisement - that girl or Smilin' Chuck?
I don't know. Chuck is kind 'a cute with that little 'stache of his and that ever present smile.....;)

Arthur P 12-11-2003 08:03 AM

RE: New Martin Ad...

Yeah... Feet. Uh huh. That's it!

The 'stache?? Nope, ain't going there. I wouldn't want to be the one to start rolling this thing into another Chuck bashing thread. hehehe

Martin's advertisements might start a whole new segment of archery competition. Maybe someday we can watch professional beach archery on ESPN II!;)

Co-ed beach archery...I like the sound of that. I volunteer to be one of the judges...for the archery competition that is...;)

But I think the real question is.............................

Does she trim the biscuit for better fletching clearance[:o][:o]:D

I must be missing something, I thought the purpose of trimming the biscuit was to allow easier loading?;)

she trimmed the whisker biscuit down to the nubs, a real long arrow will shoot fine.

Martin's ads are by far, the best in archery. I hope they keep them coming.

I've been going back to that ad on AT for a couple of days, seems to have sparked a debate on their forum. Glad that I could read the responses on here, because ya'll seem to have a better attitude about the ad. I got in a good laugh this morning. Like everyone else it took me a while to get to what she was actually promoting. Man does she look good.

In what way? Serious question here, I'm not arguing.

Purely from a marketing standpoint? From an "informational" standpoint? Cause they have girls w/ big boobies?

AFAIC Mathews has everyone beat hands down from an informational and marketing perspective. They describe thier product fully, the features of each model, and their technology in general (the "mini-catalogs"). Even on the less than desireable"slam" ads they do a good job of provinding information for the reader/potential customer (regardless of whether it's true, false, or partly both)

Pretty girls, pro-hunters, and pro-shooters do little to sell bows AFAICT. Actually discussing the product in detail is a huge part of Mathews success.

Well, in Mathews' informational standpoint, you can count on seeing a good bit of misinformation. Or maybe 'exaggerated' information would be a better way of putting it. Frankly, I get bored with Mathews' ads after the first 3 or 4 pages. ;)

I have to admit Matt McPherson is a salesman delux, but Martin's ads have more eye appeal and are definitely NOT boring. :D

I agree Arthur. I've been one of the biggest "opponents" of thier half-truth advertising for years, even though I love their product. My point was that unlike most companies at least they PROVIDE some information about the product. Most other companies show a pic of the bow, maybe some "famous" person who shoots one, or a "nobody" with a big deer. Half the time no specs are even listed.

I prefer to look at a pretty girl, then some fat bowhunter or some ad spewing exagerated claim about how great their bow is. The typical dribble found in most bow ads is enough to bore me to death. Showing me a bowhunter with a trophy does nothing to get me to look at an ad. I am completely aware that the bow brand has nothing to do with the harvest of the animal. Maybe I understand advertising too well. Maybe I just want something that's easy on the eyes. Whatever it is, I know I prefer Martin's ads.

I'm never going to buy a bow because of an ad. At least Martin's ads grab my attention and are pleasant to look at. Hands-on is the only method I will use to buy a bow, so the ad just has to get my attention that a particular bow exists. Then, maybe I'll go check it out. When I think about Mathew's ad (not picking on them), I can't pick out anything that has remained in my mind. They're all one big blur. However, I can picture the details of each Martin ad very easily. Without a doubt, the details of that ad are far more easily recalled. In my opinion, Martin has been very smart by using this type of advertising. The tasteful use of beautiful women is a great way to get bowhunters, that are predominantly male, to stop and look at the ad. Goal number one accomplished. I can't even tell you what the last Hoyt or Bowtech ad was. I'm sure that I didn't read them or pay any attention to them.

If you can't remember that, you must have had your eyes closed. It was in a very noticable area of the ad. [8D]
