Martins.....
Doesnt anyone else shoot a martin???For the ones that do how do yall like em?
Seems like all i hear about is Mathews and Bowtech. |
RE: Martins.....
I have a target Martin MV2 with fury-X cams. Great shooter. It is a target model, but it would be a little loud for hunting. Although I haven't tried to make it quiet.

RE: Martins.....
Don't see Martin discussed much here.
If you're looking for more info on Martin, visit archerytalk.com , there's a ton of guys (and gals) there shooting Martin... |
RE: Martins.....
I personally have always liked the Martin line very much, and I’ve owned several over the years. The new line-up for 2004 looks really good, and IMO has some long needed technology changes. I had a Cougar III SE magnum this year for a brief period of time that I was not happy with (first Martin ever I felt that way about), but the changes they have made for 2004 should take care of the problems I had with it.
Around my area you hardly can give them away except to the spot guys who pick up the Scepter III’s and Cougar III XRG/Elites w/ Fury X cams. The hunting models just don’t sell very well. We have a huge number of loyal Hoyt and Mathews guys for the customer-base and they just don’t like to switch unless it from one to the other. Even those spot guys who buy Martins hunt with something else for the most part  ArcheryTalk is owned by Martin and has a lot of their staff and pros over there, so if you want to talk Martin that is the place to go for sure. I don’t think many folks here have them…only two folks that come to mind are CougarMag and StraightArrow. |
RE: Martins.....
I've got an mv2 with fury cams , man its a sweet shooter , a very quick bow considering its generous brace height . I'd love to have a slayer with nitrous-x cams on order but , too many other expenses at this time [:@]

RE: Martins.....
The reasons I still have my 2000 model Cougar Magnum are: its still a great hunting bow, I did not like the riser changes in 2003, never did like the feel of Hoyt bows, hated the looks and draw cycles of Bowtech, and Matthews hype just plain turns me off.
If the 2004 Martins are as sweet as I have heard, one may be in my stable soon and/or perhaps a Bowtech. |
RE: Martins.....
No, you don't do you? As the others have made mention of, the Martin guys usually hang out on archerytalk for the reasons mentioned above. I have owned several Martin bows in my time as well. In fact, my father-in-law is shooting one of my old Prowlers for hunting. Great bows in my opinion but they never seem to fit me as well as some others.

RE: Martins.....
I've owned several Martin compounds, and gobs of their stickbows. Still got a Martin Firecat stashed away. Had a nice little Martin Jaguar that I really liked a while back but decided to sell it after I got my ProTec. Selling it was due to no fault of the bow, it was just a situation I got into.
Frankly, when it comes to bang for the buck, I think Martin makes a great bow. |
RE: Martins.....
Martin doesn't even have a dealer who sells them in Louisville anymore.
Mathews and Hoyt are the top sellers here. Martin is a nice bow but they have never appealed to me enough to buy one. They are way overrated at Archery talk! Can't say such things at A.T. but can here at good Ol' Bowtechbbs.com ;) The best crafted Martin ever made was the original Scepter. It dogs the Scepter II and III in comparison. The original has much more craftsmanship and beauty. JMO Sag. |
RE: Martins.....
Both my hunting buddy and I are thrilled with our Martins. His is the Cougar Mag and mine a Phanton Mag. We like the way they shoot. Quiet and accurate. Buddy's father bought another brand and wished it to be a Martin. I did the "compare the bow" thing when looking for mine. I couldn't find one I liked better for the money. One thing I have noticed about Martin owners. They aren't the type to walk around beating their chests and saying I have the latest, greatest model(THIS MONTH!). They seem to be mostly hunters that want a quality product at an honest price. Don't buy a Martin if you are one of those fellas that expect a new model out every three months that tops YOUR model that was the greatest bow in the world THREE MONTHS ago.
