RE: Would it still work?

I've seen it happen on a really good shot. It's just like shooting a deer w/ a field point ...which will kill the animal. Finding it is another matter due to problems with an inadequate blood trail caused by entrance and/or exit wounds clogging up.

With most of the modern designs (and by "modern" I mean designs of the past 3 or 4 years), opening is not really a problem. Most are quite reliable for that. Most newer high quality designs from Rocket, NAP, WASP, Rocky Mountain, etc. are designed to open very quickly and reliably.

Just avoid hard quartering shots and stick with designs that have a very large chisel tip , or a cutting (razor) tip as these will aid quick opening and/or pentration. Although many manufacturers reccomend about 55 foot pounds of KE for them, I prefer more..at least 65 for deer sized game.
