Eye Dominancy

I am Left-Handed and left eye dominant, but i shoot a right handed bow. I picked up and tried out a left handed bow but it did not feel comfortable at all. Should I make myself shoot it or just go with what I have been using for the last few years.

I' d shoot what you feel comfortable with.

If your uncomfortable, you won' t shoot as well. I' d stick with your current setup

Hmmmm.... Let me understand this.... You' re LEFT eye dominant and LEFT handed? Welcome to the club! [8D] So am I.

How do you shoot right handed? I can' t. No matter how many times I' ve tried, I can' t do it. I miss about 3-4 feet wide of the target! [:o] Even way back during bootcamp in the Coast Guard, I qualified on the M-16 shooting lefty, with a shroud thing that they clipped on the ejection port.

I' d try shooting lefty and concentrating with the left eye. It will become natural and way more accurate. .....Trust me.

Or continue shooting right handed, but close your left eye if you don' t do so already.

I do close my left eye when i shoot my bow, i shoot all my guns left handed with no real problem other then the safety and actions but ive learned to deal with them because the left hand versions are hard to get and for some reason they cost more, but far as bows ive never had a chance to shoot a left handed bow the right handed one feels fine but i think if i practiced i would just be better with a left handed one.

I' m right handed, but Left eye dom.. I shoot left handed... you would be best off to learn to shooot left handed with both eyes open.. I know, its hard to teach an old dog new tricks!!!!

I would switch to match your dominant eye. For seventeen years I shot left handed since I was a lefty. Never shot a bow all that great. Then I learned about the dominant eye. Since my right eye was dominant, I switched and in no time I was shooting better than I ever had before. The worse part of the switch was for a while I would grab the bow with the wrong hand.
I couldn' t see myself wearing a patch and I thought about closing an eye. But if a big buck strolled by would I remember to close that eye! Probably not, and I didn' t want to take that chance.

Shoot your dominant eye. You' ll be surprised at how quickly it will become comfortable and at how much better you' ll shoot.

I know i' m right eye dominant, but how do you determine that. I forgot how and was just curious.

Whichever you shoot, left hand bow or right hand bow, switch to the more uncomfortable one now and then. It will be a challenge to do well - but that is the enjoyment in making the switch. Besides your shoulders will enjoy the occasional break. (Try using your computer mouse with the " wrong" side and hand too. It will be awkward at first, but eventually you will be able to do it well and give your better wrist some time off.)
