whisker biskets??????????
how good od these work??????????..............bob

RE: whisker biskets??????????
depending on the type of fletching and how much trimming you do they work great. 4" feather or a strong durable vane such as bohoning or Arizona Speedflight vanes work great. With carbon arrows I trim one side of the rest, with aluminums I trim both the front and back. Go to carolina archerys website and they will explain the trimming process. With some adjustments the WB makes a great rest for the bowhunter.

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I still don' t know why C.A.P. doesn' t offer the bisquit pre-trimmed?? I trimmed mine to use with carbons it was less than a 5 minute process. I now have over 2000 shots through mine and it' s just about time for a new insert..no big deal. In fact, even if the insert developes an egg shaped hole you can just move it up a tad and it will still shoot perfect.
I practice with mine out to 70 yards. With my combo of bow, arrow and rest (your results may vary) I can keep a dozen arrows on a paper plate with broadheads at that distance. 90% go into less than a 7" circle. I cannot shoot any better, regardless of the rest I use. The bisquits are a touch noisy with SOME brands of camo carbon arrows. I just use black Bemans or GoldTips and they are super quiet. I don' t have much experience with aluminums in the W.B. I have virtually no vane wear using bohning veins on Gold Tip arrows. I used this rest to shoot my caribou this season at 50 yards. The arrow hit within an inch of where I aimed it. The bisquit does not effect my accuracy. The best part is that the bow layed in the snow with an arrow nocked and ready to go while I glassed and rangefound the area before the caribou appeared. They surprised me and I was still able to pick up my bow and bring it into action without ANY worry about my arrow falling off the rest.... let alone worry about nocking an arrow quickly. That alone is worth using a W.B. There are people all over that don' t like this rest. I could care less. My hunting partner is switching this week after seeing mine in action. He could not believe that the damn thing works like it does, but seeing is believing when I shot that ' Bou. If you have any questions on setup or problems using the rest, don' t hesitate to email me, Arrroman (on this board) or Ike at CAP. Any of us will help. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
I drew back on a big buck and my arrow poped off the forked rest, so I had enough I went home and bought the new wiskerbisket with the quick arrow insert. I had it set up in about 30 minuets. I shot 2314 alum arrow, at first I had a little squeak. I stretch out the bisket a little, now no noise. I have killed three deer so far this year after changing have way though deer season.
Shoots perfect, no noise not one deer heard me draw. Al shots perfectly in vitals. I have had no problems with fleching or any thing else. I think this rest is the best thing that has come along for the bow hunter in a long time. No I do not work for wisker bisket. In my opinion a great great product. I have my freezer full to prove it. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
ps I have not trimmed my rest or any thing else, just installed it and started hunting after about one hour of practicing with it. I practice all the time, but only about an hour after installing wisker bisket.

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I have heard alot of people taking about trimming. What do you mean? How do you do it? What are the advantages?
Thanks for the help! |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
Trimming the bisquit goes like this. Remove the bisquit from it' s holder. Take a pair of scissors and trim the back side (string side) flat. On Carolina Archery Products web site there is an explanation.

RE: whisker biskets??????????
They have been a big seller down at the local shop since they were first introduced. Even the skeptics come around to them once they have them on their bows during a hunting situation. Though I do not currently have one on any of my bows I do have one sitting aside to play with over the winter. I will give the " trimming effect" a try. ;)

RE: whisker biskets??????????
To trim my WB,I used a razor,,VERY CAREFULY !!!.I just just went around the out side edge, with even pressure.Much neeter, clean cut.NO small stubby ends next to the disc when your done.
|
RE: whisker biskets??????????
I used to be one of the sceptics, but now I' m sold on them. :D
Trimming helps, IMO, but don' t get carried away with it.;) IMO, the new QS biscuits have softer bristles on them than the original ones did. I used to think they made too much noise on the draw, but when I shot my doe, I came to half-draw 3 times, having the deer look in my general direction instead of at the squirrel that was drawing her attention, or the clover she was eating. I don' t think it was because she heard anything (I didn' t) because when she happened to quarter away, and I came to full draw, there was no reaction from her to the draw or the shot. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
i put a WB on my PSE Firestorm and im shooting better than my buddy with his $600 High Country with a high-dollar split-v, drop away rest. it shoots very true and consistent for me. i trimmed mine up and i' ve never checked speed, but the accuracy is still as good. i shot my first robinhood last sunday at 20 yards. i' m no pro and only 21 yrs. old, but definitely hooked on bowhunting. for hunting from a stand or wherever i' m saying its definitely accurate enough to get the job done.

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I put the drop tine model for carbons on my setup this year and I' ll never hunt without one again. I didn' t have to trim anything it shot fine right out of the package. Try it you' ll like it!:D
|
RE: whisker biskets??????????
Jeff,
Out of curiousity, did you notice a speed drop before and after installing the WB on your bow? I have been telling folks that there is somewhat of a speed drop but that it is not significant in regards to trajectory or penetration (assuming all else is equal). The only time that we checked it we noticed about a 6-8 fps change in speed. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
I' ve played around with trimming different biscuits and cronographing the speed loss. On one trimmed biscuit, with slots cut, it gained 2 fps over a standard 2-prong rest. Speed loss with vary, depending on the fletching (number, type, length, degree of helical) and with the amount of bristle trimming. Anyone concerned with speed, can set it up for very little if any speed loss. The biscuit won' t last as long if you trim too much, but even then they have a very good lifespan.
|
RE: whisker biskets??????????
With mine untrimmed I was losing 5 fps with a full helical. I switched to a slight offset and am now only losing 2 fps . Also with the offset feathers I have seen virtually no fletching wear !! :D

RE: whisker biskets??????????
On one trimmed biscuit, with slots cut, it gained 2 fps over a standard 2-prong rest. How did you gain speed?...or maybe I should rather ask, Why do you think you gained speed? |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
Frank:
I have no idea about speed loss. The only time I chronographed a bow (in the last 5 years) was when you helped me check Frankenstein. Well, maybe I have just forgotten, getting up there in years, ya know!;)[&:] I can' t believe that the speed loss is significant, but then I own a Bowtech that I have never had chronographed, so maybe my perspective is lacking something.[&:] On a more practical note, I recently picked up a helical clamp for my Bitz, and some AAE Speed Flyte vanes. They are considerably lighter than the Bohnings, and seem to have held up well when I was able to shoot them. I am 99% likely to use that fletching setup on the ACC' s and play no more with arrows.[:o] It sure is nice to have broadheads fly laser straight on target from a rest that is so hunter friendly and practical to use. JMHO;) |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
I SHOOT A HOYT CYBERTECH WITH GOLD TIP 5575' S AND USE THE NEW DROPTINE QS WHISKER BISCUIT AND JUST LOVE IT I HAVE NOT TRIMMED MINE AND CAN SHOOT 3 ARROWS IN THE SMALL CIRCLE ON MY MORREL; BAG AT 30 YARDS, BY FAR THE BEST REST I HAVE EVER USED, JUST TO TRY TO HELP YOU OUT I HAVE USED NAP QUICK TUNES BODOODLES, TM HUNTERS ALL DIFFERENT KINDS MY OPINION IS THESE ARE THE BEST RESTS OUT THERE, HOPE THIS HELPS,

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I love mine. One arrow falling off a rest and spooking a nice buck will make anyone want to try one.
I have never thought about trimming it. You say trim the string side only? I am shooting carbons through the full circle biscuit. Will there be any changes or re-sighting in? Of course I' ll try the target before hitting the woods anyway but now I want to try to trim it in mid season. Thanks for any advice. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
lobi:
In my experience with the Biscuit, the point of impact does not change when you trim it, as long as it was set up properly in the first place, and the position of the Biscuit does not change. I have noticed that if the rest is not aligned with the bow string (perpendicular to the arrow) then it will have the effect of making the arrow shoot lower or higher, especially with broadheads. If the rest is angled somewhat, then trimming the biscuit will have less of an effect of pulling the arrow up or down. I personally would not mess around with it in mid season, unless you are really not satisfied with the way it is shooting. I have had too many times when I was adjusting this or that a day or two before I went hunting. Some of those situations cost me deer, fortunately the worst that happened were clean misses and a superficial muscle wound to the chest of one deer when I shot low. IMO, these rests are not as easy to set up correctly as some people think. If you take the time to get them dialed in - nock height/rest height, center shot, Biscuit angled properly, etc., the accuracy you can get from them is very close to, or in some cases equal to what you can get from good shoot-throughs or drop-aways. My broadhead flight and accuracy is equal to or better than any other setup I have ever shot, and the arrow can' t possibly be in the wrong position for a shot. After years of shooting a Centerest Flipper and Plungerest Low Profile with a rubber band arrow holder, I am totally at ease with my setup. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
thanks everyone....i'm sold!!!!....the wisker will be going on my new reflex caribou........................bob

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I never thought I would like these WB but I think they work great. I am debating using one on my next bow. It is the simplicity of the WB that appeals to most.;)

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I put off trying the WB for TOO LONG !!!!.Last summer I decided to give carbons ANOTHER try,,so I figured the WB would be a good place to start.
Well,,I must say, from the first few shots,,,I WAS HHHOOOKKKKEEEDDD !!!!. I picked up some Beman 400's,that were already fletched, strait fletch, wich I was'nt too keen on,but figured I would give them a try. They flew like heat seaking missals.Even when I put Wasp BOSS broad heads in the drivers seat, still PERFECT FLIGHT.I only got out 3 times this season, but that Beman/Wasp,and Wisker B combo blew through a fat doe SOOO fast she never even ran.She stood there looking around, trying to figure out what the heck that noise was ????.Then she wobbled a bit, took 2 steps, laid down,,swung her head left and right,,,and it was all over.UNREAL[:-] I have been playing with some feather fletching on my carbons.I have my own Bitzenburger,so I can get a real nice right helical on those babys. My carbons fly even BETTER.I have shot 6 differant 100 grain broad heads,,ALL hitting within a 1/2" of my field points. To say I'm "sold" on the Wisker B,,is an understatement !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
Spent the day shooting a local club 3-D shoot in the snow. My WB equipped bow took me to 3rd place in BHFS and 6th overall. Not a single issue in the cold, 20*F, or the snow. I was forced to set my bow down in a snow bank more than once and the WB had no issues with it.
I'll be shooting indoor spots with it starting Jan. 9th and we'll see how I do. I have shot a 300 with it in practice one time. We'll see if I can handle the pressure and shoot that well in competition. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
once again thanks everyone.....and have a merry xmas..................bob

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I thought about a whisker biscuit for my new Bow Tech .
nubo |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
I just got one for christmas and i LOVE it !!!!!!! it kinda messes my flechings up though ive put about 50 shots through it already
|
RE: whisker biskets??????????
If you trim the rest according to the instructions on the CAP web site, the rest is much less trouble for your fletching. I don't cut the slots in like some do, but it works better when the back is trimmed flat. The type of fletch you use makes a difference too. Duravanes, AAE Speedflyte, and Bohning vanes hold up well to the biscuit. AAE Plastifletch Elite do not. Feathers work well too, the edges get a little "fuzzy", but hold up well otherwise and shoot great.
IMO, trimming the rest helps the accuracy somewhat. |
RE: whisker biskets??????????
joe PA ive looked at the site and cant find instructions on how to cut them please help!
|
RE: whisker biskets??????????
Yeah, me too I don't see those instructions anymore!

RE: whisker biskets??????????
thanks!!!! much better its amazing how much came off

RE: whisker biskets??????????
I trimmed bothsides of the biscuit flat once. The bow I was experimenting with was a Martin Fury. With a tm-hunter rest the bow maxed out at 299-300FPS. With the whisker biscuit trimmed flat both sides and using the same arrows the same bow shot 305-306FPS through the biscuit. There was no noise from the rest and it didn't ruffle the feathers on the arrow either. I see no reason why this rest can't be used for more than just a hunting rest, its consistant, and its accurate. Its probably just a matter of time before it gets taken from the field to competition. The whisker biscuit definately has the potential to win. Even if it is primarily a hunting rest. Good luck hunting!
