Broadhead comparisons

Has anyone had any problems with expandable broadheads? Some of the guys in my club have been shooting Vortex expandables and they haven' t exactly been getting the job done. Opening weekend here in AL was this past weekend and all together they shot 5 deer - none of which were found unfortunately - but they all left decent blood trails and then just somewhat stopped. We all just figured that one of the blades opened early. However, on 5 different broadheads it sounds a little too coincidental. I personally havent had the problem being as how I shoot fixed blade muzzy, thunderhead, and wasp.

What do they have for KE? Did they make a good shot on the deer? Vortex is a pretty good sized head, takes a little more energy I would think.

I would tend to agree with the line of thinking above. The Vortex heads, in general, have relatively large cutting diameters which take a great deal of KE to function properly.

Using something like the Rocky Mountain Ironhead XP or Rocket Naildriver/Steelhead might yield better results if KE is the issue.

Sounds like bowhunter error. either in shot placements, and or choosing the wrong broadhead for their setup. Vortex heads are one of the best mechanicals on the market, but require more KE for most models than smaller heads. This goes back to my stressing that choosing a broadhead take more time than checking out what the " proshop" or wallmart have.

I agree with what' s already been said for the most part. I don' t trust mechanicals myself, but I know a guy that uses the Vortex and I' ve never a seen a bigger hole with a bow...here' s the picture
