What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I was just wondering what you mathews shooters out there would be interested in seeing in their 2004 line-up? I would like to see some of their latest designs on a bow like the q2xl, with a high brace height that will get the speed up around 300fps with a modest draw weight. Please don' t turn this into a bashing thread as I shoot mathews and am really interested in what you all think. If I find something I like better, be it hoyt, pse, bowtech, ect., then thats what I would shoot. Let me know, or if you have heard any rumors from the top secret, classified, finger printing, security clearance, mathews tech dept. LOL. :D. Thanks, Bhunter32.

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Id like to see them make a bow for the guy on a budget with bills to pay, Also for them to stop taking up soo much add space in magazines.
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I spoke with the owner of a local pro-shop who has a friend who works for Mathews, and the word is mum. The guy said if he were to let on what they have in the works he would lose his job. BUT, if I were to hazard a guess, I think they will shorten the a to a length on the LX, the LXS. That being said, it is hard to improve on perfection..;):D[>:]
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I would like to see something along the lines of a shorter LX with the smoothness of the Legacy, the brace height of the SQ2 with the speed of the Black Max 2. One can only dream.

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
BRING BACK THE MQ1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Plus all of the new bows (2003) wiegh over 4 lbs. (except the FX).........some of us put on 10-15 miles a day and 3.5 lb bows make a difference....but as I said they could solve that.......BRING BACK THE MQ1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Without a doubt , I' d like to see some dual cam bows in their lineup!!!
Some folks seem to think that Matt would rather die than offer dual cam bows[:o] Honestly , I believe it would truely benefit Mathews Inc. to offer dual cams along with the solo cams. I know tons of folks who' d purchase a Mathews today if they offered a dual cam , including myself. I really dont know what they' re thinking by not offering dual cams. They have plenty of customers that are die hard solo cam users , by putting dual cams in their lineup they' re just opening up their market to the die hard dual cam users. Sounds like a no brainer business decision to me! |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
They are offering the Pro Star bow it was the one that they buit for Shaq...I think it is 46 or 48 ata....But has far has 2 cams...Never not under Mathews name....Matt might start a company like PSE did (AR) but never on a Mathews....That would be like Hoyt going back to single cam a foot shooter...:D
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
IMO Mathews grip blow
the worst on the market If they make a better grip - I may shoot one (again):) |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
1 or 2 page ads not half the freakin magazine!
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
IMO it is not in mathews best interest to market a dual cam bow. Matt gets a fee for every single cam bow made since he holds a patent on the single cam. Maybe this is why mathews has criticized new cam configurations. Look at it from a business point of view, Matt can continue to rack in the money on fees from single cams as long as single cam bows dominate the market but with companies like darton, hoyt, and merlin offering something different they are cutting into his fees collected on single cam bow. I am not here to bash Mathews, I own a mathews and I also own another brand single cam bow. This is just my .02 take it for what it is worth.

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
A free sample 2004 model for me to have and to hold for the rest of my life!!:D;):D

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I would like to see a different camo on the hunting bows, I like the xtra grey, but something new would be nice. Better strings and cables would be a big plus to. I usually just start out with winners choice to avoid alot of the string stretch and serving problems. Maybe a different riser design and a bit more parralel limb design. I am really fond of the q2xl I mentioned in my first post, and would love to see a bow of that design with the latest features, and whisper quiet with the speed of the black max 2. The only real problem I have had with the lx is that darn popping noise that comes from the string suppresors sticking to the string when you draw and would like to see mathews do something with this. This bow aims and holds steadier than anything I have tried so far. I agree with the fact that one bow company should not make ads that look bad for another company. This is one sport that we should all support each other in and the equipment we choose to shoot even if it is not your choice of bow. If I am lucky enough to have the bow I want, and the best the guy down the street can have is something used or half the price of mine, then by golly, I am tickled to death for him or her and the fact that they are out there enjoying this sport as much as I do. I am not in a mathews brotherhood, I am in an archery and bowhunting brotherhood with you all. :D. I am wanting to get a bunch of ideas of what you would like to see, so I can bug mathews to death with e-mails on the suggestions and hope they listen. Bhunter32.

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Look at it from a business point of view, Matt can continue to rack in the money on fees from single cams as long as single cam bows dominate the market My point is Mathews is a GREAT company. They could capture even more of the market by producing bows to meet everyones criteria! Surely you dont think that if they started producing dual cam bows that their solo cam customers would start questioning the solo cam? Do you? |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I still think they have yet to improve on the MQ1.....I' ve shot them all and the MQ1 is as good (better if you consider it is a 1/2 lb lighter than the current offerings) as any bow they made in 2003.....
Lighter has to be a consideration for Mathews this year.....Bowtech has lightened nearly all of their bows to under 4 lbs. BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT BOWHUNTERS WANTED!!! Bowtech has also made strides to offer bows that (on paper) should contend with the " quiet and smooth" advantage Mathews IMHO has always had. Now I shoot an MQ1 and I truly love it for two reasons....It is LIGHT and QUIET!! Give us some more of those offerings!!! |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I shoot a Mathews Legacy but also own a and shoot a Darton. I have shoot and owned many differnt brand bows and am not blindly loyal to any.
That being said, I would like to see a bow that is forving, Axel to Axel of 36" and a brace hieght of 7" or more, but with the speed of the Black Max. I would like a Legacy with the ajustable let off like the LX. (got spoiled with 75%). I would like to see them drop the 2 page adds and take the savings off the retail price of thier bows. And why not a 2 cam Mr. Matt ? don' t think it will ever happen but I would like to see a 2 cam Mathews. That is enough for starters I guess. |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Give me a bow a hunter would want. High brace height, light weight, quiet without any doo-dads. I don' t need stuff that can get in the way, like string supressors. There are other companies producing fast, light weight, quiet bows and I' m sure Mathews can too, if they put their mind to it. The MQ1 was their best effort and ahead of it' s time. Since then, they' ve gone backwards in many areas in my opinion. Give me parallel limbs without harmonic things and string supressors, yet keep it quiet.
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
for hunting a souped up Q2XL with a little smoother draw, faster cam, and the roller guard & string dampeners.
for target a longer ATA version of the Icon with a solid wall & a little more speed. the specs would look like this 43" ATA, roller guide, 7.5" brace height, and a little less weight in the riser. |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I' d like to see a Mossy Oak line-up. I would also like to see a different string, other than the Zebra or at least a BETTER Zebra string.
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
38" , less than 4#' s, 7" + BH, " Straight-Line" style cam, paint that won' t peel off (the handle on my Legacy is now silver), more cofortable grip (maybe smothing out the metal ridge that you thumb rests against).
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I really can' t fault Mathews in the past year or two. I' ve been very impressed with the Legacy and LX from a shooting standpoint.
I would suggest they put the new limb pockets on all the bows, and trash the string suppressors. IME they are more trouble than they are worth (wear out and/or lose effectiveness qucikly: leeches and catwhiskers work better). I will say the new strings on the LX blow big honkin chunks, but the other Zebras I' ve had in recent years have been pretty good  Most of all they need to lay of the " slam" advertising. Though there is some merit in what they have to say, it is done in extremely poor taste and makes them look like a bunch of idiots. |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I' m not sure what I wan' t them to come out with,,but I know I' m going to get something new,,more than likley a MATHEWS.I have been shooting one Mathews or another since 94' ,,and can' t see my self changing " brands" .
I will say the BowTech' s had me peekin,,and even seeked out a dealer a month ago,,just to get a closer look. They seem OK,,but I think,,because I' m so used to the way the Mathews " feel" when the shot goes off,,I don' t think I could get used to a differant bow. I' m VERY UP IN THE AIR over my next bow.I' m shooting an SQ2 now,,but remember being a better shot with my Q2XL.NOW,,I' m thinking going longer a to a,,but FASTER,,,like BLACK MAX faster. I see my self throwing some heavy aluminums,,to tame the beast,,and extract enough KE to push a ShockWave through a whitetail,LENGTH WAYS[:-] Keep in mind I only have a 27" draw,so good KE takes some work to get.I' m thinking of the Black Max II as a " pet project" .What do you MATHEWS shooters think ??.I know,,I know,,Matt has sweeter shooters than the Black Max,,but I have that power house stuck in my head[:o] I see an expensive lesson in my future ,,AGAIN [X(] |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Well,Lets see here,a Mathews wish list. Now remember,it' s kind of hard to top my LX,and I really liked my Q2,but here it goes....Get rid of the Zebra Twist,a thinner grip, much more durable camo coat. Both the Q2 and the LX had a " tick" on the first draw, but with a little work I got rid of that on both bows...How about a 36in.,80%,60-70lbs,7,1/2BH(or better)single cam, silky smooth draw, ultra quiet, shock free,IBO 320-330fps,in Realtree or Mossy Oak.Maybe just take a little of the Legacy,LX,toss in a little Q2,SQ2,a dash of MQ1,and garnish with the Black Max...Hey,You got to have some fun with this...Bob
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I wan' t an MQ-1 in Realtree with dampiners , HP cam, IBO 330, and better string' s/cables !!
Or an LX with 7" -7.5" bh, IBO 330, traditional cable guard, and better strings/cables !! Or is that about the same thing !!! ;) |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Trestand, how did you get rid of that annoying tick, as I have been dealing with it on my lx too. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks, BHunter32.
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
The tick or popping sound is coming from the little black clips on the top limb....Where the cable hooks to....Its not the suppressors...;)

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Personally, I think they will simply do more subtle, low-cost refinements like they have been doing for the past several years to maximize profit margins. Remember, Matt is all about the money, just as all businessmen are.
Dual cams won' t work now, he cannot do it now without looking completely silly after the " twin cams are history" banner he waved for many years. Likewise, he now cannot build a hybrid either after the 2003 campaign he promoted to smear Hoyt and all hybrid designs. To do so would make him a laughingstock and he certainly knows this also. So, I think he' ll tout the same old thing until he runs out of rope, then will probably dump it and either do something else or retire to his guitars and other things like his gospel singing. He' s loaded, so if this company becomes an albatross, (much like McPherson did) IMO he' ll simply sell it, just as he did McPherson. Unfortunately he has advertised his way into a corner in this particular case, and only has a couple of options now instead of many. JMHO. |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
pinwheel, you hit the nail right on the head[:o]

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I alsways wanted something like this. I would like to turn my Ultra-max like this and never have it hit my arm or sleeve again. Also, would help pain in my wrist and elbow. I feel that golden eagle and Pearson were on the right track with the angled grips. Felt very good to me. I would love to see Mathews give me one.
http://www.archeryhistory.com/compou...0/darton89.jpg That would be very cool. Dayton |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
IMO there are a few (or more) things that Mathews could do this year.
#1 loose the 10 page adds #2 make a bow that the average and less than average hunter could afford. Say around $300 - $400 range. Not the Genesis. #3 have the risers come to the middle of the limb pockets. There is absolutly no way that the limb pockets, and there fore the limbs, can sit on the riser with out leaning to the side that is not supported by the riser. #4 Make an affordable youth bow that a kid could actually hunt with. Again, not the Genesis. #5 loose the roler guard #6 loose the string supressors. A hole through the limb where it is the thinnest and takes the most abuse can' t be good. #7 make a quiver that doesn' t cost a hundred bucks or more. |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
Hey!!! Mathews you getting any of this??????:D:D:D
I know BowTech has been paying attention, how about you? |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
[:o]MAN,,,I can' t wait for these NEW freakin MATHEWS ;)As soon as my hunting season is over,I' m going to start my new account,,New bow account, that is [:-]

RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
BH,I e-mailed you with what I did..Bob
|
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I' d like to see them shorten the LX.
Have it wearing ASAT camo, and strung with Winners Choice! |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
How about a Legacy or LX hold the gimmics, no string suppressor or roller cable gaurd and drop the price $100.
how about a FX with your choice of damners or not. how about the return of the best bow you made, bring back the MQ1. |
RE: What would you like to see from mathews in 2004?
I would like to see them simply stop the Hoyt bashing...... I personally chose the AR 34 (Archery Research) after shooting the Mathews because I thought the handle was superior after shooting a few differant Mathews bows... I liked it and bought the AR. Id like to see Mathews as well as other companies try to make a more traditional looking compound - longer axel to axel length, incorporate some wood into it somehow, etc...... and not concentrate so much on speed (although speed is good) but concentrate on making it a SMOOTH shooter for the instincive archer that wants to shoot a compound without all the doo-dads..... I have no idea how many people would be interested in that - I would, as I have been playing with my Bear Code - shootin with fingers and no sights and having a LOT of fun with it...... Maybe Im out in left field but a high tech bow, with a traditional look would be reaLLY COOL.......... |
