I have 4 inch offset feathers for my compound
and 5 inch straight for my recurve

Tests by the feather companies have shown that the arrow doesn't begin to spn until it's away from the bow. They've also decided that which wing you use doesn't matter. Some people claim better shelf clearance with one side or the other.

It'll end up being a personal decision that you'll have to make... or your arrow maker may just make it for you.

What you really need to look for is that the base of the feather has clearance as it passes through the bow. Black widow has a good deal on this, their rest material is like a stiff loop velcro, and they put a tiny piece on the shelf, and a bigger piec on the riser, the idea is the arrow contacts the material at 3 and 6 oclock, and there is a gap in the cornner through which the base of the feather passes. Prepare an arrow so the feather is trimmed down to 1/8&quot; and after initial set-up is done, play with nock position until with this basicaly bare shaft, you get clean flight out of the bow. That is clean flight with a field point, with a broadhead, you need the feathers intact, so don't use a BH for this test.
