sighting in your bow
How much do I need to move my sight pins during and adjustment. Also do each pins mark a distance for shooting.[:-]

RE: sighting in your bow
Jet,
Not sure what you mean?? If your bow and equipment is tuned, straight and in good working order, you shouldn' t need to adjust your sights for broadheads (if that is what you meant). Yes your pins mark yardage. Typically, most bowhunters use the top pin for 20 yards, second for 30, so on and so on. |
No Sight Elevation
I have sighting problem of my own. I' m using a 5 pin trophy ridge flatliner and a c-peep. I' m shooting @ 257fps and I can' t get enough elevation to shoot past 30 yds. Even at 30 I' m about 4-6" low. My flatliner is so low trying to get my elevation that my vanes are only clearing the fiber optic lines by 1/2" .
2002 Hoyt Ultratec VersaCam 27 1/4" draw@65lbs. Trophy Ridge Flatliner 5 pin, C-Peep CE 200 3D select 27 3/4" @359 grns with 100 grn. heads I' ve tried everything I can think of. I' ve sited for 10, 20, and (tried) for 30, and 40. My bow is accurate, (almost scarily so!) I just want the yardage! |
RE: sighting in your bow
Where is your anchor at shinobi?
|
RE: sighting in your bow
shinobi, not knowing where your setup this may not be possible but, you could try lowering your nock point or raising your rest. You can set the rest to hold the arrow even with the rest mounting holes.
|
RE: sighting in your bow
Well my anchor is with the knuckle of my thumb to my jawbone, right behind the ear. I don' t know about raising my rest, as I' m not sure where you' re going with this. It may be that my peep is too low but, I have a hard time seeing if I raise it ,say 1/4" . The reason I' m frustrated is MY PSE Nova V4 only has a 3 pin sight on it and shoots 25 fps slower (heavier arrows) and Ihave no problem with a 30 yd. pin.

RE: sighting in your bow
Sounds to me like way too long draw length for starters, but I think that if you would shorten your DL a bit and anchor with index/thumb web on the corner of your jaw bone, that' ll bring your anchor down a bit and get things right. Maybe you could post a detailed pic of your bow when the rest is up and everything so we can see if there' s any glaring problems in arrow alignment.

RE: sighting in your bow
My draw length must be WAY off them cause my achor point is my thumb on the back of my neck, and i can feel the noch on the corner of my mouth............ I shoulld real good with it that way???????????? I dunno it works for me.

RE: sighting in your bow
Shinobi,
measure the peep on your PSE and your Hoyt. Everyone is different but a pretty good standard for correct peep sight distance is between 5" and 5.25" from your nocking point. Lower than that and you have the problem you described and higher is of course the reverse. |
RE: sighting in your bow
I' ll have to measure the two peeps. My pse has a plain jane rubber and plastic peep. The hoyt has a c-peep. I might have a bit of srting stretch so that might be one problem. I have about 1800-2000 shots on the stock strings. I would hate to find that my draw is too long. Both my Hoyt and Pse have been accurrate. I had 2 robin hoods, and 6 spiral cut carbons with muzzy heads last year. My PSE has blown off so many nocks and vanes I can' t count them all. I' ll also try measuring the peep height relative to one another and see what comes up.
Thanks |
RE: sighting in your bow
Since this seems to be jet mac' s post. Jet mac, not sure what you are looking for, but the gap of your sight pins is determined by the length of your sight bar and arrow speed. A target sight with a 9" extension from the riser will have wider pin gaps vs. a sight positioned close to the riser. The faster your bow, the narrower the pin gap. Since we don' t know the arrow speed, and humans have different body geometry, we can not tell you the gap measurements. I have found with newer faster bows that the gap between 20-30 is a smidge narrower than 30-40. 30-40 and 40-50 should be the same/near. Sight in at 20 and then 30 and 40 to see for yourself. I would start with an 1/8" and thru trial and error, you will find the gap. Good Luck!!!!:)
p.s. you set the sight pins for what distance you want. |
RE: sighting in your bow
shinobi ,
Sounds like you have a set up problem. Your arrow rest should hold the arrow even with the hole in the riser. If you arrow is above the hole that is part of the problem. I also think your nock point needs lowered. I think it would be best if you started over with setting your bow up. The sight should not be in the way of the arrow. Set your rest first (even with the mounting hole in riser) then shoot through paper to adjust you nock height. Once you get a good tear that should have those two problems fixed and should leave you plenty of room to move you pins down if needed. |
RE: sighting in your bow
Well I was finally able to recheck my zero. My peep sight had moved down the string maybe 1/4" . Doesn' t sound like much, but it kept me from even reaching 30yds. With the peep moved back I can get 35 yds. out of my 4th sight
pin. what relief! thanks for the help! |
RE: sighting in your bow
shinobi, when I put a flatliner on my bow I had to have the peep moved up to get good clearance from the sight. My dealer moved my peep up 1/2" and I haven' t had anymore problems. |
