New to hunting, need help with scope questions

I'm fairly new to hunting, I used to hunt turkey with a shotgun. I now want to hunt hog and deer with a rifle, only problem is I'm not use to the distance and zeroing a scope, What are the steps I should take? IE
How do I know how far a deer is, and how to zero my scope on it. I have a 3x9 simmons on a Savage 111 .270

Sight in 2 inches high at 100 yards, and you will be good to 300. Only way to tell exact yardages is to buy a range finder, and years of practice in the field. 270's shoot very flat, and you should have bacon and venison on the ground if you do your part.

I'm just dumb founded on what to do. Can you explain doing that like I was a 10 yr old? I know have have to dial in basically follow the bullet correct? shot low turn down to move the hairs up?

Read this link closely and if you still have questions come back and ask for help:

When you take the caps off your scope turrets you will see an arrow on each of the dials to go up or down and to go right or left. Wherever your first group hits using a good, solid rest like the guy initially talks about you will then need to turn those turrets to go in the direction where you want the next bullets to go.
