Whats up w/ Mathews???
Whats up w/ Mathews? The web sight is not up yet. I've heard of the new bow but still haven't seen them. My pro shop still hasn't recieved the bow package. I spoke to the shop owner and he said he talked to the guys from Mathews and that Mathews said they still haven't sent out the packages. Whats up w/ the delay? I emailed Mathews and they still have'nt emailed me back. I own a Mathews but am kind of dissapointed with them now. If any of you have any info, let me/us know.

RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
I agree, for a company that is known for their "great marketing" they sure are slow with updating their website every year. You'd think they would be much more internet savvy and faster at getting their product to market. They have probably already lost a lot of business ($) from bowhunters that buy new bows every year since every other manufacturer has had their 02 lineup out for the last 2-3 months, i'm within minutes of going down to the shop and ordering a new havoc-tec or cyber-tec, I can't wait much longer!

RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
Mathews is always slow to update their website.
As for the new bows, they have sent out the catalog; I have one at the house that came from the local archery shop. 3 new bows w/a few new innovations, dropped the feather max. 2 of them have built in string silencers, one has a different cam. The 3rd is designed to be used for bowfishing and upland bowhunting: 0 letoff. Quiver now have "harmonic hoohas" (as I've heard them called on this board) in them. What else do you want to know? |
RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
As soon as I sent this message the phone rang. It was the pro shop telling me he recieved the catalog. I'll check them out this afternoon. thanks

RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
The one thing that I do know is Mathews is a little less likely to get any of my money anytime soon. I have been waiting patiently for over a month to see what all the hush hush was about at Mathews, only to find out that they are offering a few gimmicky "innovations" for 2002. Granted, I haven't yet seen or shot one, but from the information I have gotten so far, I am not impressed and not nearly as eager to go shoot one. Don't get me wrong, I have been shooting Mathews for over 5 years and have been very pleased with their bows. But with all the secrecy and hype this year, I was sure they would introduce something at least mildly groundbreaking, I am quite disappointed.
The new BowTech Patriot now leads my list and I can't wait to shoot one after what I have heard about how they shoot. With better performance and top quality string and harness over the Q2, and equal shooting characteristics, this will most likely be the bow I will be shooting for the next 2 or 3 years. Sorry for the ranting, I am just disappointed that I wasted a month for virtually nothing. MN_BOWHUNTER |
RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
Virginia Hunter, if you have a digital camera or scanner could you please post pics of the two new hunting bows since it doesn't look like Mathews is in any hurry to do so.

RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
here are the specs for the 2 new mathews worth checking out.
Legacy IBO Rating 308 / AMO 235 Draw Length 24-30 / half sizes 27.5-29.5 draw weight 40-70 ATA = 34" brace height 7.5 / riser length 25" weight 4.35lbs / letoff 70% new features String Suppressors / Roller Guard / almost a Q2 with more of a parallel on the limbs. Icon IBO 300 / AMO 230 / brace height 7 5/8" 4.45 lbs weight / ATA 37" / Riser Length 25" new features = Concentric SoloCam, String Suppressors, and Roller Guard. The Sportsman is the other new one....an FX with the Feather or Fin Cam (genesis cam) this bow is really only a bowfishing bow & thats about all it would be good for. at first I didn't like the looks of the 2 new bows but they are starting to grow on me. really nothing revolutionary since other companies have done the same things in the past. both bows should be really quite, I think you could get away with not having silencers on the strings. the Legacy would make a great hunting bow while the Icon should make a great target bow. |
RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
If you've ever followed Mathews, they do the same thing every year, not just this year. Nothings been done this year that hasn't been done in the past.

RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
I am sure it has nothing to do with me, but the moment I saw the kids bow last year I wrote them and told them what a great fishin bow it would make with a little more oomph. Can't really think why i did that, since I don't bow fish. Just nosy I guess.
Since I was considering a Q2, I guess the Legacy will be worth looking at. At the moment, unless the Icon is going to be incredibly smooth, I am not sure why I would shoot it over my C2. They keep getting slower every year. In the old days I always got published velocity levels out of the Mat.bows (minus about 5fps for dodahs), I am lucky to be an easy 30" (and lucky in past years not to be longer than that). But there were a few of the 2001 bows that were slower than 300 IBO from what I hear. I can't check this out for myself, since I don't shoot 70# any longer. |
RE: Whats up w/ Mathews???
I saw the booklet yesterday. The Legacy is pretty much a Q2 w/ the String Suppressors and roller guard. The Icon is mor like a MQ1 w/ a little longer brace height. I did'nt like thook of the Ikon w/ the round wheel at the bottom. Oh, the Legacy had a cam. Other companies will be using the string surpreser system next year I bet. It makes sense. If you can stop the string from going further ahead after the shot then you will get less vibration. You guys will have to see it. I can't explain it well enough for you all to understand...shoot I don't understand. After my dealer recieves his bow(Legacy), I'll shoot it and then shoot the Q2 and let you all know if I feel the difference.
