Peep alignment
 

I just had a new string put on with a d-loop and a new peep. The alignment was fine in the shop, but after 6 shots at the range, the peep is no longer in line. How do I go about realigning the peep. Should I try the plastic style d-loop instead of the cable style?

I would wait till you have a couple of hundred shots through the bow to let the string settle in then make final adjustments and retune everything.

Thanks Aussie, but what do I do if the d-loop shifts and I can' t see through the peep. Right now when I draw the bow I can' t see through the peep. I just wondered if one style of d-loop is more reliable than the other. What do you think?

Their are a few things you can do.

If it is a string loop - you can give it a spin - then tighten the knots up with plyers put between the string and the loop and open them. A metal loop can be unscrewed and repositioned.

Put bow in press or get one of those string seperators and redo the peep by switching strands from one side to another.

Press bow and twist string.

or give it a twist with your hand before each shot - until you break the string in.

But ausie is right - you need to get a bunch of shots through it to let it settle.

Ok, good tips. Thanks guys. Do either of you have a preference. This is the first time I' ve shot with a d-loop. Thanks again for the advice and info.

I prefer to use the string loop.
The metal loops can break your string under the serving.

If you have a cheap machine made string, it may never settle, and you may have a lot of frustration with the peep. If it is a quality string, after shooting the couple hundred shots, the peep should remain where you put it.

I personally prefer a string loop, because they' re lighter and are easy on your string.

I think I' ve got everything back in order. I' ve shot about 50-75 times now, and the alignment hasn' t changed. I shoot a Mathews with the Zebra String, so it' s nice. Thanks for your help and good luck.
