I WAS USEING A LIGHTER ARROW 370GR. 55/75 XT GOLD TIPS. 100GR ROCKET STEELHEADS. THE BOW I AM SHOOTING IS A MATTHEWS SQ2 28IN DRAW AT 72POUNDS I USE A RELEASE, THRU THE CRONOGRAPH LAST YEAR I WAS AT 245. MY KE. THIS YEAR IS AT 60 AND LAST YEAR I WAS AT 49. DO YOU THINK THIS ARROW IS TO HEAVY?? I AM HOPING THIS WILL PROVIDE BETTER DOWN RANGE PENETRATION.

RE: hope i have the correct arrow for my bow?? help
Unless your arrows are hitting nearly sideways, you should get pass-throughs with your setup. At 72# I don' t think a 467 gr arrow is too heavy. With broadheads your FOC may be a little low. If the arrows shoot & group well, you' re OK. I don' t agree with the 11# of KE increase. The resulting loss of speed will have a large affect. Momentum will be better, possibly, which will help penetration. Your speed with the new arrow will be around 218. KE= 49. You may want to check the tune on your bow (or other possibilities). The 370 gr arrows should have worked well for you.

I also agree - you won' t gain 11 lbs of KE just by going to a heavier arrow. Your ke will remain about the same.
I also think a 28" , 72# SQ will do much better than 49 lbs of KE - something is up?? 245 seems a bit slow also - unless you have tons of junk on your string. That setup - should blow through a lung shot - if tuned well 49 or 60#' s of ke - don' t matter. And what are gold tip 100' s??? Did you recover the deer? Are you sure they were hit where you thought? |
