What is the ultimate hunting shaft

Price bare none in your opinion what is the ultimate hunting arrow and why? Also choose a brand.

Before I do, in your poll, what is the difference between ACC and Easton ACC?

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shart

For me it is the Gold Tips they are a tough arrow with good weight.

None, my mistake, will try to remove one or the other.

Aggh[:' (]..perhaps he means ACC like a " Blackhawk ACC" (which technically is not the name of the Blackhawk arrow)

If that' s the case I voted incorrectly. Chalk me up for EASTON ACC.:D

What is a " shart" ? :D

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shart

In that case, Easton ACC, er, ACC as that' s all that' s left :)

Durable, Right on spec and confidence that each arrow you pull will go where the last one went unless I screw up :)

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shaft

CBM, I sure messed this one up, two mistakes but they are both corrected now. I think.

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shaft

My guess is that the first three selections are for specific types of arrows whereas the last group of choices is for specific versions of each type. I voted for two at the same time sooooo....

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shaft

I voted for ACC (Easton) because you said price bar none. However, I think the best arrows for the money are XX78' s. They are very consitent, and about 1/2 what ACC' s cost. If money was no object I' d probably shoot ACC' s, but since it is.... XX78' s it is:)

I like gold tip pro' s and beman ICSH, but of all the shafts in the poll for hunting, i would go with the ACKinetic.

ACCs get my vote. Why? Durable and straight.[:-]

How about Beman Matrix? Are you considering that an ACC?

Mez...yes

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shaft

In all honesty I cannot believe the results of this poll. I agree that ACCs are probably the straightest and held to the tightest tolerances in general but the fact that they can and do bend like aluminums makes me wonder how they can be considered the ultimate " hunting shaft" .

For those of you that picked the ACC, what are your thoughts about this?

JeffB 08-27-2003 06:49 PM

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shaft

but the fact that they can and do bend like aluminums
They can bend, and do bend..but NOT like straight aluminum.

As I' ve said many times before they take nock end hits extremely well (better than all carbons), and most people who have problems with them bending are the guys I see who can' t get one out of a 3D target without twisting the thing like a pretzel.

You can' t pull on ' em like an all carbon shaft, but ACC' s are certainly more bend resistant than straight alum.

I sent you some. Shoot ' em for awhile. Draw your own conclusions :D

For a hunting shaft, nothing beats Beman Carbon Hunters (the skinny pultruded carbons). They are very strait, very consistant (spine and weight), tough as nails, and penetrate better than anything else. With the advent of dropaway rests, their only disadvantage (fletch clearance) is eliminated. Oh yeah, did I mention that you can buy the shafts for under $45 a dozen?

I seem to shoot the XX-78' s better than anything else I have tried.

CX for me are tops. just saying carbon was a bit generic.
I have had GREAT luck with the CX shafts (the 3D selects I have had were all within " spec" ) they take a lickin' and keep on stickin'
Straight, consistant, and most importantly for me, they are accurate...and STAY that way!!!

price bar none , xx78 ' s of course

Ash, maple, and birch all get my vote as top hunting arrows. Douglas fir, Western larch, and Alaskan yellow cedar get very close runner-ups. [:-]

I have, hence my comments. :D[:p]

Good point Jeff, but a bent shaft is a bent shaft. I know...I know, even ICS carbons will bend...but when they bend they have broken carbon fibers. Is that necessarily the case with the ACC?

mez 08-29-2003 11:17 AM

RE: What is the ultimate hunting shaft

ACC, Yes they bend but as Jeff B said, not as easily as aluminum. Straight and very durable. For me they have held up better than my goldtips. The gold tips explode, for the most part, when I accidentally miss the target the matrix only bends if it hits something very solid, tree, metal fence post, wire etc.

I like my gold tips. Last year shot the 3d pros but are going to use the gold tip " traditional" carbons this year.
