I switched to starrflight fob's this year. I've been really impressed with those.

CK - I believe it is a personal preference. I shot 4" vanes, Blazers, NAP Quickspins and feathers. Last year I switched all my arrows to feathers and although the vanes shot well, I just like feathers. Yeah, they are noisier in flight. But I made the longest shot on a whitetail this year than I ever had in 45 years of archery hunting and had no problem with him ducking the arrow. (43 yds). If you're concerned about water, you can spray them with Camp Dry or some other silicon spray or get a bottle of fletch dry powder and apply it. Another downfall with feather besides having to apply a moisture barrier if you're planning to hunt in wet weather is the fact that they aren't as durable as a good vane.
If I were you, I would give the feathers a try. If you don't like them you can always go to vanes. The new vanes by Norway Industries called Fusion vanes look pretty interesting. They supposedly use natural light to allow you to track your arrow with similar results as a lighted nock without the weight.

Shoot them for a while and see how well you like them. I use blazers on my compound and feathers on my long bows.

I agree they are a bit more noiser than vanes, but they fly really well.
