Mechanicals not hitting same as field points?

I have recently started shooting the gold tip gladiator 100 gr. They are hitting low and left to where my field points were hitting. I shot my fletched arrows w/ the field points through paper and was getting good results. Should I just sight my pins in for the mechanicals or is there another way to get both to hit in the same place, when getting good paper tears.

Broadheads usually add about an inch to your arrow. This will change the arrow spline. Check your arrow chart to see if the arrow you are shooting is on the border line for proper spline. If so, the extra inch your mechanical has added to arrow length may have put you over the edge causing erractic flight. Changing to a heavier splined arrow will solve this problem.

Good luck,

Dan

When I shot spitfires they always shot 2 inches low and left of my field points
at 20 yards.

Dan - take out the " L" :D;)

I never found the extra length to do anything to my tune - they should hit exactly the same as your field points if the bow is properly tuned.

The extra length will slightly change FOC but not spine. And such a small change in FOC will not be noticed unless you are shooting 90 meters or so.

Move nock point down and play with windage on rest to get them to hit the same.

I will play with my string loop some and try to get similar flight with both field and mechanicals. How do you " slide" your string loop up and down, without having to re-tie a new one?

How do you " slide" your string loop up and down,
its lots of fun:D

First I will try to spin it and see if it will move.

If not I will actually sit there and work the knot loose.

Good Luck:D

In 5 shots test the gladiators proved to be no more accurate than a normal fixed blade broadhead. Therefore you will have to tune for them as you would a fixed blade.
Funny this topic came up as I shot a gladiator this weekend and it went left of my point of aim. A little center shot adjustment and it was on. But I didn' t end up using them.

DaveC,
Thanks for the advice. Why did you decide against using the gladiator?

Not that I decided against, I just decided FOR another (sidewinder for now). If I' m using a mechanical I want mechanical accuracy.
The ease of blade deployment is what concerns me the most. And these heads are kinda scary for me. I just see myself getting cut sooner or later with those sharp poity blades reaching for me[:o].
Can' t beat the price, that' s for sure!!

Rack:

Sorry about the " L" . The country blood runs deep and we like to make up words sometimes. However, I am correct about spine change with the addition of a 1" broadhead. If you speak with any of the reputable arrow manufacturers you will find this to be true.
