Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
Can someone please recommend some good books/videos to help me learn how to maintain/tune ect.... (basically everything) my bow so I DO NOT have to take it to someone and hope they do things the right way only to find out the while taking a shot on a record book antelope that because someone tied my kisser button wrong my arrow flew way above his back only to watch him run off probably never again to have him with in bow range again.

RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
1 Eye, the best book I know of is called " Tuning & Silencing Your Bowhunting Shooting System" , by Larry Wise.
Bowhunting shooting system... Anybody else remember when they were called bows and arrows? LOL.... I think![X(] |

OK pal, I feel your pain.;) You are new here and it wouldn' t be the first time someone didn' t practice enough before their hunt. WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!:D Want to learn how to take your bow apart and put it back together? This is the place. We have some of the best frequent this board. Just don' t be a smart ass to the big guns or they' ll stop answering your threads.;) We are a warehouse of archery links. Need a press but can' t afford one? We have links on how to build them. Want to make your own strings? We have links for that too. Anything you need, some one here either has one, had one, or can find one.

Any knowledge you can pass on would be greatly appreciated! I am curious about building a press but not abjected to spendin the money to buy a decent press ( any recommendations?) I just want to learn how to do thing the right way the first time. Oh and by the way I took a look at the books you folks have reccommended and Thanks to you guys and Amazon they wil be in the mail soon. Thanks for your help and I am looking forward to the wealth of information you folks can help me with!:D

1 eye - Welcome:D
I have been using the Bowmaster cable press for a few years for about 35 bucks. Takes a little longer than a " real" press but does fine for home jobs. |

Just don' t be a smart ass to the big guns or they' ll stop answering your threads. I use an Apple press. Works great for me. ![]() |
RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
1 eye, if you want send me an e-mail. I can send you attachments of the press I built and also the string jig (easy to make especially if someone can turn your posts). Made the press for under $50.00 and the jig for about $20.00. If you know the basics it really isn' t hard to pick up the rest. You can also use the search feature here and find stuff quickly. Good luck.
P.S. I was thinking the same as nub so glad you explained that. |
RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
IA:I wouldn' t mind takeing a look at those plans.:D

RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
IA, you' ve got mail!
1eye, my advice to you is read a bunch.....here and books. Watch videos, any thing you can. Tinkering with old equipment isn' t a bad idea. Being mechanically apt doesn' t hurt. Most of this archery stuff is quite simple if you understand the root of the mechanics. |
RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
Why not talk to your local Rod & Gun club or Archery club and see if there is an interest in bow tech? You may be able to find a group that would put together a pro-seminar. Here is a suggestion.
Contact the bow companies and find out if one of them has a bow - rep or tech that could come out and go though tuning and setup. You could offer to pay them for their time and also let them tell them about their new products. Then get the Rod & Gun to advertise the " Tech Class" to it' s members. Remember to get a few videos of the class so that guys can review it. (take them to a tape place that makes multi copies and you can distribute them to the attendees ) Oh yea. If it is a rep he/she will probably be able to bring some demo bows that you can work on and shoot. |
RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
Thank You all for your advice! I was actually loking at the very same Apple bow press nub. Know of any places cheaper than $290 at Cabelas? I have already ordered a couple books and plan on calling Mathews, BowTech or anyone who will listen. We just started a club on the base where I am stationed so I might be able to get the base to foot the bill for the tech rep who knows but a damn good Idea!:D

RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
Jason and nub, my e-mail won' t connect but I' ll get those out to you within a couple days.

RE: Please Help! Tired of unreliable work!
1 Eye, don' t forget PSE. They do a lot of tech training and maybe they could set up a seminar on your base for your club.
