New string on Mathews - same problem.
 

Just bought and installed new strings and cables on my 70 lb Mathews FX (Zebra). I have a 29.5 " draw. When " maxed out" , I am only getting 64 lbs. I had the cables twisted by the dealer - only to achieve 65 lbs max. The dealer said that because I had a 29" draw, I was losing 5 lbs. Personally, I think it' s BS! I know people who have a 26" draw and their bow draws at 72 lbs. I told him to check the cam position (as recommended by Mathews) - he just looked at me funny and told me that the cam never goes out of position. This is the only Mathews dealer within 100 miles. THe strings are the correct length. Any suggestions?

If you are shooting a 30" cam and dropping the string to the 29.5 position, then yes you WILL lose peak weight...a substantial amount depending on the individual bow.

By twisting the cable back up to regain poundage (or to get the cam in the proper position) you are increasing the draw length, hence you are running a round in circles.

If you have a 29.5" draw and want to shoot 70 pounds, I would suggest you get a 29" cam put on your FX, and use a longer string loop (or put one on if you don' t have one) and/or a different release head that has greater distance beetween the head and the trigger.

The cam is not adjustable on that bow, It should be 70lbs maxed,(usually around 72)

I know what you mean about lack of quality Mathews dealers. Same problem here. Hopefully your problem is very simple, something in the cables & string. Did you try it on different scales, to make sure that the scale was accurate? I hate to say it, but a bent riser may also be the cause. It can happen if the dealer didn' t back out the limb bolts, before putting it in the press. If so, he would be responsible, and the warranty should cover it. I would call the next closest dealer, and see what they have to say. Might be worth the trip. You might try getting a hold of Len In Maryland, and shipping the bow to him. He' s not a Mathews dealer, but if it can be fixed, he can do it!

Trebark perhaps you did not read this?


It is adjustable in 1/4" increments one inch down from the maximum by adjusting the string on the posts.


Rose very well might have a Mathews LX but that is not what Rose stated

Check your cam rotation yourself.

Thanks for the response guys. The draw weight was checked on three different scales, so that is out of the question; however, upon checking the cam I noticed that the string is mounted on the third position (not optimal). JeffB - Yes, the bow was bought as a 30" draw and reduced to 29.5" . I guess I can live with it the way it is - I am deadly with it:D. I just thought there might be something wrong due to the premature serving separation next to the cam (brand new string-zebra). I haven' t more than 100 shots on the new string and the serving is already starting to show wear[:' (].

Something else could be even though it' s brand new string and cable is that you' re assuming they must be the right length. We' ve been getting in bows at the shop I' m at now and one I used to work at that had different length strings and cables on then what was called for (the one a few days ago had a 3" shorter string on-yes 3" ). Not saying that is the problem but this is why I like doing my own work so I know for sure.

If you want to put a end to the serving separation try a Winner' s Choice string and cable.
I switched to them about a year ago and it cured that problem.

I had a similar problem. I finally found a Mathews dealer that knew what he was doing. My problem was in the cable. You can contact Mathews Tech Support by phone and they will help you too. You should no problem getting 70 pounds out of that bow.
