Something strange, need tech help...

I was just shooting my bow. I' ve been practicing one shot, put bow down, get arrow, shoot again. I' ve been doing this for weeks with good results.

So I concentrate on the dot on the bag target 25 yards away, draw, release, bullseye. I get my arrow, repeat.

Upon release, I hear a sharp " sound" from my bow, and my arrow impacts 4 inches low. I examine my bow, sight is still mounted solid, string and cables are in their correct grooves, only things I notice out of place is the upper string leach has slid all the way up to the idler wheel string serving, and my Tru speed nok is now perpendicular to the string. I take another shot, same weird noise, leach is in bad shape, so I take it off. Further examine my bow, nothing. Arrow again hit 4 inches low. I repeated this 3-4 times, same result. I also noticed that the valley seems almost non-existant, and the bow wants to scream forward from the wall. It seems like I' ve suddenly lost several FPS.

I shoot a Diamond Hornet, with the BT post feed cam, 65% let off. Any thoughts as to what might be going on? It' s got me scratching my head...

What kind of rest do you have on there?Does your draw length still feel the same?

Check all your measurements. Brace height, axle to axle, tiller, nock height. You might have nothing worse than a string or cable going south.

But I' d really check the limbs very closely for any cracks or seperations. Riser too, especially under the grip. Check the limb bolts and washers as well.

Don' t forget that those limbs are under a good deal of strain even at brace height. Don' t get your face too near them or we might have to change your name to Camface.;)

If you can' t find what' s wrong, don' t just assume it' s okay. Get it to the shop and have it gone over bolt by bolt.

I' m shooting a Savage drop away, draw length feels the same.

Art, that' s what I planned to do when I had more time. Problem is, we don' t have a competent shop anywhere around us, especially one familiar with Diamond. I bought it from a local shop that burned to the ground a few years back :)

What get' s me is the low shots were all the same amount low and dead on. If I' d been shooting for groups, they' d have been tight.

The last thing I added to the bow was the saunders deadly quiet. I' ll check there, could be that it' s moved closer to the string somehow, which would account for the nock being rotated and the speed loss, possibly even the funny sound. I have my fingers crossed.

Went over to the Saunders site and looked at the Deadly Quiet. It sounds like your bow is getting in a bind somehow at full draw. Don' t see how the DQ could be causing it. Did one of your cables jump into the wrong track in the cable guard slide?

Hope you find it. Best of luck!

Nah, checked the cable slides as well as the string/cable tracking, everything appears to be in order. Problem now is I won' t be able to " richard" with it for a few days... damn priorities... :(

Well, I would say ' you shoulda bought a Hoyt' but I don' t want to rub salt in your wounds. [&:] Only other suggestion I can give is to send an e-mail to Diamond and see if they can diagnose the problem. Maybe they' ve seen it before.

Hoyt Schmoyt... I would have, but I wanted to spend less money and produce more energy :)

I really think it' s related to the Saunders DQ. The 65% let off module has a very small valley to begin with, I think I was just hypersensitive paying attention to every little thing while I was freaking out :)

I may get a chance to look at it tomorrow. Hopefully. But you won' t know, cause I' m out ' till Monday... :)

Try takilng the deadly quiet off or rotating it out of the way. let us know if that was it because I' ve got one on order and don' t need any other bow related tuning isssues. I' m at my full allotment!!

Watch the string. I had one that started to go a couple of years ago and at first my only indication was my nock point slipping up/down (I forget which), but then one day I opened my bowcase to find the string had plain " let go" and both limbs were stretched as far as the cable would let them go.

Rangeball--

The Diamonds are critical of stretch. They have a " sweet spot" in the cam rotation, much like most other bows with solos. If you get out of it, the bow vibrates more and becomes much more noisy at the shot, and speed drops off quickly.(which would also explain your low hits)

Optimum cam position varies on the Diamonds depending upon which cam you have on it from which year, but if it happens to be the post-feed or the one just prior to that, , then there is a machining hole directly across from the loop peg, and the limb should be coverng just about 1/2 of it for optimum position when the ATA is constant at factory spec. Let the brace height fall where it may.

This may help.;)

Also check to see if you are getting contact on anything with your trunock, or if the Saunders has moved. It' s hard telling without looking at the bow, but these are great places to start.

And, you don' t need a Hoyt for what you are doing, that little Diamond will treat you just fine.:D[&:];)

Good shooting, Pinwheel 12
